Hi guys,

Just thought I would share with you some test shots before I picked my gf up from the airport. I did with an Olympus E-P1 coupled with some of my Voigtlander lenses.

ER130054.jpg

I tried out my 15mm F4.5, 25mm Pancake F4 & the 40mm F1.4.

ER130100.jpg

15mm at F4.

ER130060.jpg

15mm at F4.5 (I tested these two shots against the oly 17mm pancake, the oly won at F4.5 in terms of sharpness)

ER130071.jpg

25mm pancake

ER130074.jpg

25mm pancake (first time I've been able to focus with this non-RF coupled lens!)

More can be seen at http://www.studiov.com.sg/TEMP/EP1_Test/content/ER130085_large.html, although some were taken with the oly 17mm for comparison.

If you are interested to know how easy/hard it is to manual focus, I would say it just takes some getting used to. I think it takes about the same amount of time as it would if I shot on my Bessa to be honest. The only problem I had was with the WB at the airport. I think the camera had a tough time, but then again when I shot at the airport with my D3 recently, the D3 also had a tough time getting the WB right.

It's too bad the crop factor is so dramatic, my 40mm now becomes an 80mm! But I suppose I'll get used to it...

Oh yes.. did I mention the Silver E-P1 looks damn good with the Voigtlander lenses attached to it? :)

any problem focusing fast lenses on the camera? I bet it with be better with pen system manual lenses too..Prices seems to be rising...

Faster lenses are easier to focus actually, the image on the LCD is brighter and clearer.

I tried manual focusing with the Olympus 17mm but it feels funny, I think because the focusing dial doesn't actually move the internal elements, it's an electronic contact that tells the camera to change the focus. Heck, you can even change the direction in which the dial focuses to infinity.

Nice composition especially with the travelator shot. If only the guy on the move did not make the connection to the sleeping guy.

Yeah, the mix of natural and artificial lighting will catch most cameras. You can use the CWB preview in the E-P1 (not sure if D3 has the same) to finetune the WB to exactly what you want.

The Voigtlander is definitely in my shopping list (and part of the reason I chose silver) but now that I know of the lumix 7-14...:think: I need a way through my finance department.

I'm assuming you mean how you focus with it on the E-P1?

The E-P1 uses a live view mode, so essentially just set to whatever aperture you want on your lens, then turn the focus dial on the lens while viewing the LCD. To assist you there's a zoom in function which can allow you to fine tune the focus. You just make sure the camera is in the "manual focus zoom mode" (forgot the actual name), hit OK on the camera dial, and it zooms into the area you selected. Hit OK again after you got your focus and then you can recompose the shot.

The zoom goes in 7x or 10x, which can get very bumpy when shooting at anything above 40mm.

Boo! The Panasonic doesn't do that. As a Nikon user I really would like it to focus the Nikon way.

The 40/1.4's bokeh looks a little odd to me. It reminds me of C-mount lenses, with the coma-shaped highlights on the edges.

Yeah the 40/1.4 has never had bokeh to shout about to be honest...

thanks for sharing your experience with the pen. it is now in my shopping list....
i can imagine the look of a silver pen + a silver chrome c sonnar.... sweet! :D

And I share your pain of having a 2x crop factor. Personally would like a wide prime for the m4/3 but there's just no lens for it!

er.... cv 12mm?

Here are some more shots taken today around Duxton.

ER140312.jpg

40mm

ER140325.jpg

15mm (I think)

ER140342.jpg

40mm again

ER140299.jpg

75mm

ER140289.jpg

15mm

All images were sharpened as I needed to show my editor the photos but WB and exposures were left untouched out of the camera. Lenses generally were stopped down to between F8 to F16.

I should've been a bit more specific. I was thinking something on the F-mount.

I did consider the 12/5.6 but the combination of the maximum aperture, price, and functionality (it's only going to work with the GH1) made me not favour it.

Yes, that's what I did in the end after I realised the AWB couldn't handle the light. I've even set it up as the custom function button so it's easier to access.

14mm F2.8

Nikkor, Sigma, Tamron. On 2x crop is 28mm no distortion.

I was hoping for a 10mm actually. :P I like my wides very wide. Not just wide, like a 28mm FOV, or barely wide, like a 35mm FOV.

Pelang 8mm? Not sure if it'll work though.. ;p

Looks fun! Chiif has a FD to micro 4/3 adapter. Can put the Canon 7.5mm fisheye on it and try!

Cheers,

Ok I seem to be adding more and more conditions, but I was referring to rectilinear wides. :P
