Videographer Pricing

Maybe it's about time the industry form a union type association that could come up with some guidelines to protect all the production houses and small media businesses.

Yes. The price is really crazy. I have heard of ppl charging $800 for video and photos for a whole day Wedding. Totally unbelievable. With such practises, consumers will never understand the value n work involved in post production.

I do some freelance work as well for friends (usually dun even charge them) and found that this is really too taxing! Will have to set a price that is worth the effort.

DXNMedia, what do u think is a reasonable price for a full day event of 11hrs? A popular package I see locally is as below:
11 hrs of filming (Can be broken into 2 sessions for customary and dinner)
6 hrs of editing (3-5min Express Highlights-for same day playback)
2hrs of Raw Footage (Post production work for the customary and dinner, not much effects here)

I see people charging from $800 to $2500 for this kinda package

Hi I am looking for a videography on our wedding which split on 2 days.

1)Tea ceromony on 30Mar07(Sat)
2)Actual Day on 1Apr07 lunch banquet (Sun)

If you have any reasonable videography package to offer pls email your quotation to me at e_x_pert@yahoo.com.sg

Thanks.

Yeo

Hi litl3boy,

You mentioned Tea Ceremony - Do you mean the entire morning from the bride make-up till tea-ceremony at (1) groom's house and (2) bride's house? Please contact me at mindzest@yahoo.com for details. Thanks.

Hi all..

Being following this thread for sometime...the problem has always being the same iregardless if it is 5 years ago or now. Pple under charging..couple asking for less...production house squeezing freelancer...

Let me volunteer my rates...

$1200 for full 1 day shoot + basic editing into DVD.
Express highlight, extra $300
If split 2 days then extra $500

I'm all for starting a "group" (cannot say union..later Uncle Lee come after us). To kick things off...I am proposing a meetup over at my studio to form up the skeleton concepts.

Dixon...u better come ok?

Hi All,

I'm a new CS member but I've been in the industry full-time (as a free-lance) since 2002. I've come across couples who told me that they have someone who can do it for $200/- (one such case this week) and I told the caller to take that offer. When you are in this full-time, it is not the shooting alone that you are charging but also the time spend on editing. And time is money which translates to paying bills, etc. And editing is just as important as shooting - A good final product or dvd is the result of the way a person shoot & edit. And editing does not mean cut and paste only but design & compositions and creating effects with other softwares to make the dvd exciting or at least not boring to watch.

I don't pretend to be a expert videographer/editor but I urge fellow videographers/editors, whether you're semi-pro or professional to have some self esteem for your chosen trade and not undercharge. In the long run, customers may not think highly of you and our profession may be look down upon.

haha... wah wonder if the couple really go for it... anyway one thing i learn from some buy/sell forum... "if the price is too good to be true... usually it is..."

All professionals have a more or less standard market rates. Minimum for per cameraman is minimum SGD500. Any lesser than that good luck to the hirer - no guarantee the video will be professional. The established and experienced will charge from SGD800 & above. Its nothing to do with the tapes being cheap or anything its the skills/experience of the videographer and video editor. Professional softwares will take a pro to edit about 200mins to come out with a decent wedding video. Starwars take 6 years to complete what do you think???? Cost factor of professionals includes their equipment, soft/hardware, annual replacement of equip etc. not just some spoil market just edit like that, even now the Mediacorp moonlighters are inexperienced those good one are either with raintree or have their own companies.

Seems like response for the meetup is half baked at best...

For those guys that have put their name down...sorry wasn't able to get to you as dun have your numbers...

Maybe I will try again...

For this Friday, at 7pm at 103 Mcnair Road,

PM me your number as you put down your name below.

You can get me at 94335776

Meeting will go ahead once we have 10 participant... :)

Of course more is welcome...

Thanx

500 is too much below budget.. most pro not willing to do it considering the time, effort, and equipment and material cost involved.

a decent pro rate is abt $800 and more depending on the timing and other factors..
additional charges required for express editing.

maybe you shd look for the style u like first, then talk abt your budget if allowed.

and to any couples getting married soon.. pls set aside of ATLEAST $800 for wedding video if u intend to hire any..

cheers and Gong xi fa cai

Hi all,

For a rough guide, I did mine for $950 3.5 years ago. Really happy with their editing & this is just once a lifetime (If u marry once only)..:D

Hi! Nice meeting you last Friday at your cafe. ;)

Unfortunately, couples will always be expecting low rates. Recently, I saw one asking for photographer and videographer for $1k for actual day wedding!
