I'm currently using 500D for my work, my workstation has no problem of playing its 720p footage in NLE. I can import the mov file generated by 500D directly into Premiere CS4, without any transcoding.
I'm thinking to upgrade to 7D,550D or 5D II recently due to the 1080p recording capability in 30fps. However, I did some homework, realising that there are users complaining that the playback of the 1080p mov file is terribly slow in NLE during editing, as low as 6fps.
Since my workstation has no problem with 720p H264 mov, would that be a problem for 1080p H264 mov? I cannot afford to do transcoding, it's going to cost me arm and leg for wedding express highlight, Hope you guys can help me on this...
My workstation has a Quadro FX4500, it doesn't support CUDA, I was wondering if it could speed up the 1080p playback in NLE if I upgrade my graphic card to something which support CUDA. If graphic card doesn't help, what will? Nvidia Tesla? Please enlighten me...
Another confusing part is...my Z7p records 1080i M2T Mpeg2 to 16GB for 75 minis, 5D mark II can record much shorter time using a much higher compression (H264).It doesn't make sense, I think it has something got to do with the original bit rate from 5D II...I was hoping canon can provide us a better codec for editing rather than H264, I guess the mpeg2 with equivalent quality will be enormously huge... . I have read news about Sony is going to come out with video DSLR, should I wait for that?
Any of your input will be greatly appreciated! Thx in advance!
