[ Vanity ] Olympus EM-5 accessories thread

anyone know the price for the hahnel giga t pro ii for olympus? found nikon and canon ones at $99

Just receive from delivery and tested Penpal PP-1 on OMD. I never expect it to work well but it works very good with Galaxy Tab 7.7 and galaxy S III. I am sure other android devices will work too.

downside is only one photo can send at one time. But sending is quite fast. You can also reduce the photo size to send on the fly. That one good thing.

will test it out on jailbreak iphone soon

No its doesnt work with iphone as iphone doesnt support OBEX Bluetooth profile. But it will work with mac and andriod and other phone if they support this profile.

Beautiful trio!

The tan skin looks nice on the OM-D. But I'd prefer if it had more texture. Looks kind of flat.
But nice work anyway. :)

Hi guys, can share what kinda accessories should I get for my OMD? I'm a newbie and pretty clueless what should I purchase. Don't want to get recommended useless accessories by the shops and tio chop.

Probably make a trip down to funan today.

Anything that I should get? I can think of a few now.

Screen protector
Lens pen (must?)
Blower (must?)
Camera insert (what's a good place to look for these? something like the haven from crumpler would be good)

Do feel free to advise me on what to get, and what I should leave out. Thanks.

Only using OMD with kit lens btw.

Suggest u withhold buying all the accessories for now.

Go out shoot more and you will understand and know what you need. Else you will end up buying the whole shop :) for a start just a spec cloth to clean the lens is good enough.

If u plan to use the omd for night shots then maybe invest in a proper tripod.

My suggestions:
1. Screen protector is a must.... you can buy the cheapo $3-4 from SLRR, AP, etc or branded $25 from Martin Fields or ACMaxx hard protector fr eBay... up to your budget actually.
2. Lens pen if you don't want to use filter. If you want to use filter, better get the filter pen
3. Blower - not necessary since you only have kit lens. If you want to get blower, Giotto blower for ard $12-13 is a good buy
4. Camera insert - good if you don't have a proper camera bag and want to bring your camera inside your normal backpack / messenger bag. If in Funan, can check TK Photo or SLRR for insert. If insist on Crumpler, there is a Crumpler boutique at the basement of Raffles City, City Hall.

Screen protector - Yes, but don't spend more than $10.
Lens pen - No need. A good lens cleaning cloth and "moist breath" will suffice.
Blower - No need. You won't be taking off the kit lens until you have a second lens. Before then, your camera sensor is well-protected.
Camera insert - Depends. As long as you have a padded bag of some sort, you can afford to look around more before deciding.

thanks for the suggestion but i think i at least need some protection for the camera. other accessories i guess can hold a bit. =)

thanks a lot. yeah i'm still a little undecided over whether or not to use a filter. optically, i guess the lesser obstruction the better. however, a filter would be good to protect the lens as well. headache man. i don't really insist on a crumpler, but i do like the haven that they have. nice with a drawstring, ample padding as well. will try my luck around funan. hope the shops don't close that early. probably heading down after work.

thanks for the reply rhema. i guess i need the insert as all my bags are pretty abrasive. better safe than sorry. still only a student, saved up for the camera by working part time. not really willing to let this baby get scratched.
how do you determine if a cleaning cloth is good anyway? price? any brands to recommend? are there different materials?

The only accessories you really NEED are the screen protector and something to clean the lens.

Anything else will depend if you want to spend money or just feeling vain. :)

yeah. don't gan jiong go funan buy things. look around first. at least you know the price range of a particular item.
the screen protector is a must. no need to pay expensive for a plastic. i got mine like $5/ 2 pcs in ebay. so far so good. another extra is just lying in my cupboard.
some will get a hood for protection against knocking/ keep extra flare away, others buy a UV lens and act as a protection. - up to you.
those cloths for cleaning specs also can use.
As for bag, i suggest you wait first in case u buy a expensive bag, cannot hold enough stuffs as you progress. Inserts is pretty ideal for you right now.

Last time i came across someone post a reply on someone selling those reasonable price lens adapter here. anyone know the link can PM me or reply? thank you a lot!
