Utterly Disgusted by Alan Photo

life will be simpler and salesman will be honest if all things are sold at the recommended retail price

I gotta agree that AF @ Funan is not a good place to shop. I always, and I mean ALWAYS being quoted different price for the same item. From batteries to filters to lens to speedlite. it's rather irritating.

SimLim's is better. And if you know how to talk, they are quite ok to negotiate. you know one la... some uncles or ah bengs like customers who can crap with them. hahaa

I didnt read all the postings, but just want to share that I had a very bad experience at Alan Photo recently.

They served me half-heartedly and did not serve to my needs.
Simply brush me off and say buy SLR.
See me no up??
In fact I was prepared to spend more than $800 in their shop (SLS).

Wow, this lame post is still going on strong. If the purpose is to highlight about poor service, then most of us Singaporeans will have come across similar experiences in any other retail shops in Singapore at some point in time.

That's true.

On the other hand, I've been buying stuff from AP w/o any problem for quite some years, and think their services are quite okay, not any worse than most other stores. Actually most time I was served very well. It's a mutual thing I guess :)

After years of support for AP, thousands of dollars spent, its sad that i've to be sourcing/buying stuff from other shops even if it means paying slightly more.
Thanks to unethical sales staff telling me that i could get refund if its not the right tele-conversion lens. Following day, same sale staff denied that he ever said it. After agreeing to buy other stuff in exchange of returning the lens, still got a nasty attitude from him in front of another customer, i just paid up the balance, walk off shaking my head...not without giving him a piece of my mind right in front of other customers.

I have purchased 10 P&S and 3 DSLR from AP w/o any problems for years. I have even recommended many friends, both local and foreign who are satisfied customers.

I agree that this is mutual thing. If you don't like their service or offers, just walk off to other shops who can fulfil your requirements or 'specificatons'. By 'shouting' at this forum will not change your mind.

If AP is that bad like you say, how come it is the most crowded shop in SLS? You can go and witness yourself.

CP, MS & OP have join the boat of 'bad' services and offers. Maybe should just post and tell the others where you have received the 'emperor' service that others also can benefits.

If I receive the service from the shop not meeting my expectation, I just move on and never patron that shop again. That's life.

i enjoy buying from florence, sam and richard.

AP? nobody hiu me :)
despite ME taking the initiative to smile FIRST at them and start a conversation. no right or wrong actually.. tha'ts how they operate. not happy? move on.

pick the shop you're most comfortable with.

Went to AP (Funan) to look for remote shutter release for my D80. Firstly they didn't hiu me for 20 mins even though i approach them several times. WHen i finally manage to get the attention of one of their male staff, i asked him if they have stock for the remote shutter release, he said "Huh? what is that?" WTF! He even asked if Nikon even carries it! After he went to check he qupted me $90 for the Nikon version adn 65 for thje 3rd party one. Went to CP which was also out of stock before hand was quoted ard 45! Seriously, didn't epect this to happen at AP ( funan). ;(;(

r those names from MS Color , John 3:16 , Lords ?;)

AP... never heard from anyone :dunno:

Never like AP due to their attitude. In Funan, there is only one cam shop that is worth patronising, and yes you'd guessed it, it is John 3:16 (though I seldom buy at Funan). Excellent service and product knowledge which I think AP chaps seriously lacking way behind! BTW, there is this cam shop located at 2nd floor in a corner call "Joy's photo" or something that I think is related to AP, saw the AP chaps walking over to Joy's and chit-chatting a few times when I went to Funan. Caveat emptor guys!

Conclusion, AP has got no professional attitude, no professional product knowledge, no professional customer relation, .... in short, no professional service! Hey AP you hear me? I would avoid you like a plague, my $$$ is going somewhere else.

A few years back, i enquired & asked when i pass by A.P at SLS, abt my choice of dSLR tat i wanted to buy (moving up from prosumer, though also that i frequently buy from MS Color instead)... the salesman also see me no up... tat was my impression... :sticktong

when was your last visit to that AP at SLS?

I went to another shop they served me very well.

My last visit was in mid of June, bought a JVC MG505 camcorder from them :) I'm happy with the price, and the service as well (they didn't have it in stock, but after talked to Sam - one of the nicest chaps there - he got one for me from some other shop/place :D).

AP was the only shop in SLS that I'd buy stuff from normally, but now OP comes in right behind :)

brudder, the shops should employ sales who know how to relationship with the customers and understand that customers are the key to their business...we as a customer should not play the role to relationship with them and be their good friend.... we rate the shop according to the past services encountered....and service quality is always irreversible, once it is bad, it will be bad.

nope. I think Azul is right. For my case, I ALWAYS go to mscolor and to the same sales man. That is the way the world WORKS. EVERY SHOP SALESMAN treat repeat customer better. be it in camera, business world, etc. If you want to get better service, make and effort to start a relationship with one of the sales people.

but having said that,

I agree with the majority of the posters here. AP in SLS has REALLY BAD service to most people who are walk-ins. SO bad that it actually put me off to even make my first purchase with them.

AP in SLS is the kind of shop where you go in, as how much, then BUY or LEAVE. Their prices sometimes are very good.

I got my S5 at AP Funan but not alone with a friend.... Thing are not so bad... my friend demanded to see tat guy which was not around... He told mi some of the Saleman there not bad only thing is tat they must koe u... Koe tat u koe the price... Ms color also the same thing... Quote a 17-55 by their lady boss 2150 but 2 day later ready to buy but being quote 2288... ask how come increase in price he say this is the best price... I told him i want to see her boss... later her lady boss came out and give mi the same price she had quoted before.. from tat onwards i only need to sms her on her phone to get a quote...

I wonder how many people on this forum have worked behind the counter in SLS. I don't know how it works for cameras, but for all of those computer parts, most of the smaller shops actually sell them on consignment, supplied by some of the bigger shops in SLS, and earn only a miserable few dollars. This is how it worked a couple of years ago, don't know if it is the same now. For a couple of dollars, how much service can you expect from them considering they have to serve demanding, unreasonable and many downright rude customers like Singaporeans? Just looking at this thread, we can infer that there are many amongst us who are demanding and some even unreasonable. What if the salesman provides a potential customer with the knowledge about a product, and that potential customer goes to another shop to buy the same product for a dollar less, how do you think the salesman will feel? I don't believe that salesmen can differentiate cheapos from people who are willing to pay for service.

If we look for the equivalent of those unethical salesmen, but from the salesmen perspective, I can bet you that they will tell you the worst type of customers are those who ask an infinite number of questions and don't buy, like many silly Singaporeans who go into a SLS shop and ask for a price without stating their intentions clearly. If you want a good price for something, tell the salesmen you have the money and intention to buy and tell the salesmen that other shops are selling at the other price. If the salesman in this shop cannot beat that price, you can always go buy from the other shops. Don't waste their time, and don't waste yours either.

If you look carefully at the post counts of the posters in this thread, it does seem as though only those with low post counts complain about AP, and at the same time many of them point to the fact that there is a shop upstairs which gives superior service.

Just stating a factual observation. Draw your own conclusions.

Everybody has got their own prefered store. for me AP is not the shop. seems to look down on students thinking they can't afford stuff in their shop. My own prefered stores are MS and CP for filters, lord's for lense and john 3:16 if i wan good service for slightly higher prices. The reason why AP is not the shop for me is that it discriminates. On my 1st visit, nobody serve me and just left me like an idiot standing there. There was another customer fiddling with a camera from their shop and when i ask for that camera they said no trying. Was utterly disappointed in a shop that some many people swore by. seems that they have the tendency to look down on students. perhaps they forgot that the we would be the spending generation soon. good luck to them.
