Utterly Disgusted by Alan Photo

i was at CP today to look for an Lowepro backpack. now the first thing one notices is that all items have price tag, a price tag the sales person claimed is the "recommended" price tag! it said S$668 on the bag i had in mind, however after asking what the price is was told roughly 330$... similar story for other bags. so i querried "why put price tag with double price? not the real price?". the answer was "we cannot give fixed price, price depends on customer! if you are regular you get extra discount...."

so the dear madam told me straight into the face that the price is made up depending on how she feels...
so much about CP customer service... this practice is just bullshit!

I agree! the price they quote is usually bull crap. varies with diff customers. :sticktong

i remember one time i call to AP and ask for pricing for ex430. guess what the sales lady say ?

i am very busy now attending to a customer. pls call half and hours away.

kao,this kind of answer .

end up i got my flash with CP .

Actually, the RRP on Lowepro products are quite ridiculous; if you go to fixed priced stores like Challenger then you'll know what I mean.

Extra discount usually means a rounding down of your final expenditure.

If the company allows their sales representatives a little latitude for "relationship" discounts, then all the better for customers who attempt to forge one with the company.

So no, it ain't bullshit; in fact I'll be upset if a smash-and-grab customer gets better pricing than a regular like me.

haha..
i used to go to AP cuz of the good price and the fact that they stock alot of compact cameras.

but now after knowing friendlier and more reliable staff, i've been patronising TK and J3:16 more often.. hmm..

I recall there was once when I went to AP to ask for a hood and a filter. Waited for almost 20min only to get an overpriced quote. Out of frustration, I just went next door to get a cheaper hood and filter, knowing that the price will be higher than if I had went to CP.

extra discount, little latitiude???? at 50% discount to the labelled price on first quote.... i think we are way beyond this....

why is this not good customer service? cause as a customer i have no gauge anymore what this price is.... the price tag says 660$ if i talk to salesperson A i get 330 and if i talk the next day to person B i get quoted 380....

For most people the quoted price of Lowepro bags at CP is always half the tagged price.

I believe the only reason they never put the net price, is because their net retail price is lower than the wholesale price they are offering to other shops. (They are the only distributor of Lowepro products in SG.)

I don't know how would other shops (at least some other shops) be able to sell Lowepro products if this is the case.

It's like NTUC sell apples to customers at $2.00, but they wholesale to other shops at $2.50...

Me : How muchie?

Dumbo : $55, last one, noe more!

Me: You sure? Last time, your shop quote me $35 only, after GST some more.

Dumbo : So low meh? Cannot be lah, so low you got there to buy lor.

Me : I offer you $35.

Dumbo : Cannot lah! Prices all went up oredi.

Me : You ask your boss lah, I want to buy at $35, you go ask your boss.

At AP SLS, they will always come back with an improved price that is now close or equal to the better prices. Why? Because you have shown your sincerity to buy and that you have demonstrated that you know the prices. They never argue with you if you demonstrate to them you want to buy from them, they are more likely to accomodate to you because they know now that you have the money to spend, and it is better to spend at their shop than someone else's shop. Just don't piss the boss off.

Dumbo : Okay lah, today boss good mood, $35, I only make $1 from you.

I totally second your opinion on this. :) Its always up to the consumer to put it in a nice way to get a better purchase. SLS is a place for computer stuff, not camera in the first place. If we are regulars there, we will notice that most of the customers are Ang Mo. Prices first quote to you will be the cost+GST+GST+GST. :D Talk to them nicely and they will be more than happy to reduce the price for you. I am a regular in AP SLS, everytime I am there to get something, I will be the last to entertained, wanna know y? LOL Cause of the special price that I am getting without the 3X GST incurred... :D

Just get to know the boss, and deal with him only directly. He'll at least be the one that can give the 'best-est' price that the other sales persons cannot give. ;)

Hello... i still haven been to AP to purchase anything b4*in fact, i still a newbie on photography)... here's the scenerio that i'm thinking of.. dunno whether this method will work or not... hoped to get comments on this.

I going to bring $3500cash... walk to anyone that i find pleasing to my eyes and tell him/her..

"Hello, can u give me a good price tat i can't resist on the nikon D200 and lens and some accessories if i'm paying by cash straightfront.."

As to my understanding, a shop owner which i known dealing with other stuffs....that paying by nets or credit cards will be at a disadvantage to them cos due to the nets/creditcards company will take a few percents on the price(maybe tat's why they charge higher than usual?)

i only know one thing is that its cheaper to buy at SLS then at funan....i dun understand y they cannot standardise their price
