Utterly Disgusted by Alan Photo

Friend, Cathay = cut throat price!!!

Check the feedback listed.:sticktong

CP may quote higher price for some items but I believe this is the same for all the shops. CP quoted $108 for the Lowepro CompuDayPack but I bought mine for $85 over at MSC. Today, I just asked about the battery for D80 at John and was quoted $90 when CP quoted $75 and OP at $70.

In short, do your research before buying.

Their boss don't care about improving customer service. So why should his staff care?

Anyway, their business so good, why should they bother with us, a small group of buyers?

It is as if they are doing us a favour by selling to us!!!

Attitude like that, what to do?:sticktong

so we clubsnappers should make this a sticky!!! unite!!!

MSColor is quite consistent with its pricing.. i previously had try to throw off stunt by going there without e-quotes, prices all consistent.. freebies all thrown in.. they never smoke me wor, though i might look like a kid... hahaa :sweatsm: got checked for watching Spider lilies

on the other hand AP SLS allowed me to test any lens i bought so far... mind i tried 4 or 5 sets of 80-200 f2.8 before i settled for one... CP on the other hand would not even allow me to touch a Mamiya 645 i wanted to buy...
in the end its not the shop name but rather if they know you or not....

err i also dun know anyone previously in MSColor, went there and asked for cameras to play and snap... they quite friendly leh, never pressurised me wor :sweatsm:

As a buyer, you have the right to demand testing of lenses/cameras before you buy, wheather AP, OP, ..whatever. My experience with CP so far is they'll let you test anything before you buy. I remember there was once I need to buy a lens urgently, went to CP, they have a 30D ready for me to test the lens and even a notebook to download the pictures to check for sharpness!!!

And you think that's the right way to do business?

And you think that's the right way to do business?

then the right way to do business is that sorrie you cannot touch, cannot look, cannot choose the set u want? i give u what, you must take what? including "display sets" which are recon?

Weixiang, I was referring to his statement that good service should only be accorded to customers who the salespeople are familiar with.

AP sucks big time! feel so small everytime i go there, finally stopped doing that to even check the prices. the guys there act like they're some big time know it all dudes, so rough and uncouth with customers. thought the funan chaps might be better...voila...they're WORSE!!

started visiting OP at level6 instead & their attitude & service makes me feel like a king. so far have heard good things about CP too from forummers here.

my conclusion & reco - go to AP if ur into S&M!!! hahaha :sticktong ---> to rude shops like AP!

hehee... :sweatsm:

good service should be accorded to all potential customers :sticktong

Sim Lim disease, people!

The golden rule at Sim Lim, know what you want beforehand.

Because there is no such thing as customer service there!... well most of the shops there anyway. :bsmilie:

And you think that's the right way to do business?
which one? letting me try or not? or that the shops are nice to people they know?

i am a strong supporter of:
> you can try anything before buying, unless of course it destroys the item... the argument "i cannot sell open package" is bullshit
> fixed price
> price on box is actual price (ever noted in CP and others how the price on items is a fantasy price)
> same good service for everyone (but its natural that if you know people you get a bit better)

Weixiang, I was referring to his statement that good service should only be accorded to customers who the salespeople are familiar with.
my statement was that it is usual in singapore to get good service if they know you, this does not mean that ONLY the known ones should get good service.... of course not

I do get good prices from CP. They have more or less given quite consistent prices, albeit slightly higher. But thats what i paid for service; to be able to test out my stuff, friendly environment, and peace of mind. Strong recommendation. I do not quite like to save a few bucks and buy from someone with lousy service. Good salesperson should be aptly "rewarded" with deal and the effort they put into me.

Rant mode on...

I think its not the shop but the salesperson that give the shop a bad name. :(

I have dealt with AP previously with positive experience, but I did note that their filter prices are really much higher than others. However, recently, I have had another negative experience that has made me much more cautious with AP. I called them over the phone to ask for the price of a Canon PnS digital camera. I was quoted S$470. But, when I go down to buy, the guy who entertained me say its S$490. When I said, your shop just quoted me S$470 a few hours ago, he asked me for the name of the guy. Of course I did not remember to ask and I told him I don't know. He then tell me no way the price can be that low. After a short while of trying to bargain with him, I gave up. :thumbsd: I called a friend who knows a guy at CP and I then went down to CP and got it for S$470.

Speaking of CP, my experience there has always been positive. Even though they are not the cheapest for everything, I don't mind shopping there because they do have a wide range of products.

As for MSC, my first experience was a bad one and I never went back there again. I bought a Nikon SB-600 without checking it in the shop (last piece!). When I checked it the next day, I realise I can't read the LCD screen. When I call up the shop, they say I have to bring it back to NSC. What the hell? I just bought it yesterday?!?! :dunno:

Sorry, rant mode off...............

Unfortunately, shopping anywhere in Singapore you need to build a relationship with the shop. I tend to buy all my stuff from a shop that no one in ClubSnap usually mentions, and in fact, I used to think that they would be over priced when I first entered the shop 10 years ago. However, they have been consistantly on-par or even cheaper than most other shops, and since building a good relationship over the years, they always beat the best price that I can find if the other shop has stock. The only thing is many times I need to order the goods in. The other shop I buy from often is CP at Peninsular, again I've build a repore over the years and always get good service and price.

What was a pleasent surprise was shopping in Hong Kong. I managed to find a shop near "Ladies Market" that gave great service and very good prices; it was one of those shops 'upstairs'. Another pleasently surprising thing was that I was walking around on the 10/11/F of Times Square and ventured into this shop which looked expensive. I asked for the price of the Tokina 10-17 Fisheye and was quote a price. After only asking once, they lowered to price significantly and when I said that I was paying with a Credit Card, they said OK at the same price. I probably paid a little higher price since it was in a 'proper' store, but still within the mid-range according to here. Furthermore, I made them bring out all the copies of the lens for me to choose from.

hmm...lucky man guys...tmrw my father wanna jalan-jalan check prices at SLS...and he dont keep up wif prices...anyway, service in Singapore in :thumbsd: ord wat, so at SLS, even worse lah.....anyway, i notice that Pentax people prefer to go to OP (Orient Photo) for their stuff...so cannot say which one is best becoz everyone is treated differently there depending on:

-Shopkeep mood
-got ang moh or not
-how u dress
-u know ur e-quote or not(dun tink they care)

anyway, u must do homework first, if not u pay the price(no pun intended:D )

Aiyah, sad man CS ppl, i tell u all ah, if I start working and got enough capital and get to know more about the camera and accessories, i confirm open a shop named( Clubsnapper's Haven) and I really scour the whole globe for good prices to sell to u all. Even if i earn $1, if thousands of CSers go there, i still make money rite?:bsmilie: Give every CSer a membership for good price...and i prefer to maintain neutrality, cannot choose customer...thanks for the info i not i kene "kapak" (chop in malay) over there since i newbie:dunno:

u all got other shops that got same problem?
