Utterly Disgusted by Alan Photo


Actually recently I have some bad experience at AP also, asked for Sigma 15mm at simlim branch first, they said 857 include GST, but only have stock at Funan branch, so I went down there and buy, but they said no more stock need to order, fine...then I asked how much, the guy said 880 include GST, I said it can't be, he said if I pay cash can cut to 875, no choice then I ordered it, after that I felt a bit regret and went down to another shop check price, the sale people told me include GST SGD810, I shocked and decided to buy from this shop.
 

mind you... the AP's compatible is as bad as their quote.
and its not about the price.

i was already willing to pay $35 if i could get the original from AP. that was why i didn't go straight to OP in the 1st place.

its just their business ethics that i'm not in favour of.
 

Check out Ebay, last time when I bought my adapter tube for my A95, after comparing prices on Ebay and shops in spore, I bought from Ebay, after factoring in shipping too. 3rd party la, metallic material, silver finishing. But end up selling it away after getting my dslr
 

Find that AP is not that crowded compared to the past... Maybe 6th floor have caught more attention? ha... at alan, whatever they quote will be quite steep, up to yr bargain power lah... if cheaper by a few dollars, dun waste time over there :bsmilie:
 

littlepea, sorry to hear your bad experience at AP (Nothing new though :) ). Take it as a lesson learnt.

You can never be sure of prices in place like AP and CP where there are 1000 sales reps loitering about the shop, each one quoting based on how much extra they want to earn. No consistent pricing whatsoever. Only go there if you know people there or if you get a trill from being treated like dirt and being passed over when they see jucier prey.
The only saving grace for CP is that the staff are usually quite nice (unless you're there near closing time - my experience at least) and you can try out all the display bodies, touch touch, feel feel, to your hearts content.

So far, I feel TK Foto gives the most consistent pricing (and good pricing as well) and the service is top notch.

MS Color - They were great before they got the disaster of an expansion within AMK (Who in the right frickin' mind will have 2 shops within 500m of each other?). Good service, good, consistent pricing.
They're still good now, but the prices have been creeping up. Probably to cover the overheads of 2 shopfronts.

As some others have said before, different shops have their different strengths (in terms of pricing). If you're going for the absolute best price, be prepared to do a lot of leg work.

That said, I won't touch AP with a barge pole.
 

Littlepea, last time when i went to get my R72 there i was quoted some unbelievable prices too but before i went i did some research on filter price in the IR section. So i told them how much is the normal price which they later agree to it. Someone once said if you mention that you are from CS they would give you further discount but i have yet to try that.

here's my experience with AP.
ask for quote, went down to shop, told mi quote is b4 gst.
sometimes, they not interested in serving mi,
guess wat ?
i bought my R72 from US.
Fast, reasonable price n professional.
 

the only place that has not quoted me exorbitant prices or use dubious sales tactics is TK Foto. you might want to check that out.
 

at AP, it's also a whole new ball game when they have stock and they know others don't have.

the prices of small accessories literally double

That is what happen when shops like these choose to hire some 'lucky plaza' salesmen who prey on consumers, just to earn a few more dollars of commission.
 

i do notice their quote seem to be on a higher side compared with others ? :confused:

Last time in another well known shop also more ridiculous...

went in to check for a price of something from uncle A, walked out to consider then walk in again ask uncle B who is not attending customers and get a different price... maybe cause they based on commission or soemthing

i've bought quite few cams, misc from AP SLS but i switched to J3:16 lately.

Recently, me and my friend went Funan, AP quoted D80 kit for 1750 and
J3:16 quoted for 1780. We bought at J3:16, sure i don't mind paying 30 more
for good customer service and their credential.

i won't know later if AP will tell me that is w/o GST or whatsover crap reason
but i know J3:16 is friendlier, reliable and consistent for their pricing. :thumbsup:
 

AP is usually quite inconsistent with their service, u meet the right sales person u are lucky. u get those not serious ones, usually will quote u high price, or "smoke" you.
Service there so-so, depending on the salesperson.

I strongly prefer Cathay, the service there is much better. They are more upfront, prices are competitive, dun fluctuate too much and more controlled. They allow you to test their products, and let you compare before making your purchase. They are more service-oriented. If something screwed up, I have much more confidence in resolving at Cathay than anywhere else. Its safer
 

Their boss don't care about improving customer service. So why should his staff care?

Anyway, their business so good, why should they bother with us, a small group of buyers?

It is as if they are doing us a favour by selling to us!!!:angry:

Attitude like that, what to do?:sticktong
