Ermm... Is there a massive difference b/w USB 2.0 and Firewire? And is it worth to actually pay that much for a firewire?

So you got it on Thursday? Saw you and Red Dawn heading in Funan's direction on that day!

I bought it before my D100 actually. ;) Was heading towards Funan to get some PC parts for my office, RD was heading there to get something else, possibly a 16-35L, 70-200L IS USM, etc. ;p

USB 2.0 is actually faster at 480Mbps. FireWire is 400Mbps. But I think FireWire has less overhead. Anyway, with either one the bottleneck is now on your CF card.

If your PC has USB 2.0, go for the USB 2.0 one.

Just upgraded my PC cuz the former one has RIP. So now it comes in 2 flavour - usb 2.0 and firewire.. hence I wasn't sure of which to buy.. :)

i think we need to split the thread to congratulate ckiang on finally getting a dslr :D

Get the Firewire reader.

FireWire devices are all DMA based ( only require CPU for setup ). So, the loading of copying files from / to a Firewire device should be much less than a PC Card (PCMCIA) & also USB ( which requires programmed i/o )... (pretty sure for PC Card, for USB I hope I remember right).

hmm... sounds like what i learn in computer interfacing:)

I saw a shop in SLS selling a 3.5 inch internal IDE card reader (6 in 1 type).

Is IDE faster than USB 2 or firewire ?

is there a cheaper alternative for firewire CF reader?
couldn't find it in SLS..

Yeah, coz AP not bringing them in anymore. The MicroTech one also costs around the same. If you want something cheap and fast, and your system can support it, get the USB 2.0 one.

Bought the 6 in 1 USB 2.0 reader at PK @ funan for $52... My dad just bought a olympus digicam tt uses smartmedia cards so no choice I got the 6 in 1 instead.. Pretty portable.. :)
