US carrier Docking in Singapore ???

you can call the PR officer at the local US naval detatchment. The office is COMMANDER, LOGISTICS, WESTERN PACIFIC ( COMLOGWESPAC) if i recall correctly. The number is available at the US embassy website. If you manage to get tickets, must jio me ah... haha

You can take ALL the photos you want at the flight deck, hanger state rooms etc... bridge, CIC, and, hehe, the nuclear plant is out of bounds..

actually, these stop by quite often, every 4 months or so. The pacific fleet CVs, enroute to the indian ocean/ persian gulf will stop by south east asia. They tend to alternate between Singapore, thailand and sometimes ,malaysia. . But sometimes, they hit all three countries as well, espacially on the way back to the west coast.

the US carriers have stopped over in Singapore for years. they used to anchor at the Man-of-War Anchorage before CNB was built. MOW Anchorage is just off the Marina reclamation near Benjamin Sheares Bridge. From my office at Gateway East I can see the carrier and some escorts, damn good view.

Had the privilege of going onto the KittyHawk when they called into port before heading to the gulf couple of years back. It was due to a friend's connection with an official within the carrier. We were introduced to the operations of the different departments of the ship, with the most interesting being the technology in which they catapult and receive planes off and to the carrier.

If i recall correctly, they were docked at east coast (cannot remember where we disembarked when we headed to the ship). Photography is allowed on all parts of the ship that are included in the tour. There was even a 'shopping' session where we can purchase souvenirs such as tee shirts, caps and stuff (so singaporean huh).

Yes, it's docked at Changi Naval Base, together with 2 escorts that I could see.

If any of you visit Hawaii, make sure that you go to the Arizona War Memorial and the USS Missouri. I am no longer sure whether is photography still allowed, but where the memorial is located, you will be able to see the home base of the US Pacific Fleet.

Sometimes, you can see carriers docked there too. There was this one time that I saw a Improved Los Angeles Class Submarine heading into the docks. What did you know, I had a Sigma 50-500 with me and was able to take the shot, but if you do, make sure that you do it very quickly.

it has a flat landing facility with no anti-air offensive capabilities at the back. besides the structure of a landing ship is not the same as that of a warship. warship is more streamlined and for a good reason. a landing ship does not have the same manoeuvrability as a warship. it would be suicidal to deploy a non-warship as an escort.

we shall not discuss the capabilities of the Endurance Class LST (noot that I am qualified anyway). but I think you're reading the picture wrong, the LST just happens to be anchored there or passing by, clearly the US CV batter group does not need us to escort them.

i am referring to ericp's comment about the escort. i cannot see any other 'escort' other than the 'landing ship'. on second look, the carrier was berthed. again, why would an escort be needed?
