Urgent!! Worth selling away my D60 now to change to a D90? Urgent

I have a D60 and have the urge to sell it off and buy a D90 too!! But after reading the posts to your query, I will keep the d60 for a little while longer and buy lens instead. My passion is landscape. and currently i have 18-55, 55-200, 50f1.4G What lens would anyone recommend? 18-200 so that i dont have to carry 2 lens?

Never. The 18-200 is a step back in optical quality. It's main strength is in convenience, no need to change lens.

Your main weakness right now - small aperture f/3.5-5.6 or f/4-5.6, except the 50mm f/1.4G.

See where you passion lies, maybe you should do:
- superwide - like 12-24mm, or 3rd party lenses 10-20, 11-16
- fisheye - like 10.5mm, or Tokina FE zoom (10-17?)
- fast portrait lens - like 85mm f/1.8 or f/1.4, 105mm or 135mm DC
- micro nikkors(!!!) - like AFS 60mm f/2.8 or AFS 105mm f/2.8 VR
- fast lenses - f/2.8 and below.

You'll need to manual focus on some of them (all non-AFS), though.

All will open up a new horizon!

You cannot demand top notch IQ in a superzoom. But I'd say it's decent enough for most things. It's versatility is it's key strength.

RESIST! There has been a few times when i wanted to upgrade from my 400D to a newer model... but ask yourself, has your potential reaches the maximum limit of your current equipment?

If yes, upgrade. If no, hope on abit more!

If you are in an edurance race... you need a car with good mileage and speed...
If you are in a race to deliver most goods/passengers... you need a big car...
If you want a comfortable ride... you need a spacious and comfortable car...
If you want to impress people with your car... then get the most expensive car...

So... the car does matter depending on what you want to do with the car... but if you do not know what you want to do with the car... or just to get around... then any car will do :bsmilie:

I am a D60 user and at times i feel that i maybe limited to functions that other higher range camera posses like radio function,video output slot to do tethering,noise control for ISO,AF motor,so on and so forth. However,i make do with what i have. i have a D60 kit+55-200mm+battery grip+flashlight+filters and etc.

Although this is what i have but i do take portraits,landscape and candids etc in terms of quality from a kit lens,there won't be much visible differences between a D60,D80,D90 unless u pixle peep. There are cheaper alternatives of lens out there like Tamron,Sigma,Tokina, that suits your needs. If its still too expensive then there is the BnS section.

What i'm saying here is not to say D60 is a camera that limits your creativity to take photos,What limits us humans is our mind, our creativity. Eg if i give you an apple and photograph it,it will still be and apple no matter which angle you shoot. But if you cut up the apple and photograph it,it will still be an apple but with a whole new perspective to it. so its just how you want your photos to be

I have this sudden BBB virus urge to sell away my D60 and change to a D90kit with 18-105mm lens. Can anyone tell me what would be the main advantages D90 has over the D60?

Video Recording--- I dont think people who use SLR will bother to use this so I guess its secondary?

Megapixel +2 ------ I dont think this could be felt unless the pictures are blown up to A4 or A3 size?

Camera in built motor----- I think most nikkon lens are now AF-S which does not need and internal motor in the camera for the lens?

But there is just this feeling that makes me wanna change from the D60 to D90? I believe a lot of D60 users have done this upgrade or new buyers fork out more money to buy the D90 instead of the D60? Why? Can anyone tell me why?

Honestly, you said it yourself that you've got afflicted with the BBB virus to upgrade. I think the fact that you've considered buying the D90 without knowing what the main difference(s) are kinda means that you don't really need it but am having your wallet pinch ya ?

Seems from your post that you're merely looking for a "reason" to buy the D90.... !

Frankly, I have not read the rest of the posts here, but I'd say just from your starting post that you don't really need to upgrade.

On the flip side, it would benefit the economy (And indirectly the rest of us) if you did go get an upgrade, so I'd say, go get one and then figure out the difference later ?

Thanks I'll be resisting to upgrade my D60 till the shutter life dies or some mishap happens to it(touch wood). But no matter what i won't be selling it off, firstly its small and handy(good for travelling),secondly its still a SLR ( Gives you full manual control and gives you freedom of lens choice), lastly its a wonderful camera!

Heh. That I would agree..... D40x / D60 is small and handy and honestly, enough flexibility to create great pictures already. I have the D70 as well and I had been using that more often in Singapore of late cos of IR photos..... For travelling etc, I'd go with the D40x.

Anyways, until I exceed the functions of the D40x & D70 consistantly, or when the shutter dies, I would be using it to learn more about photography. I have 2 other compacts and honestly, they can take great photos as well. Spent my last few hundreds attending photo courses etc. I think for me it's money better spent. By the time I deserve something better, I hope my skills would be up to mark to use my new toy then !

Until then..... TAHAN the Call of the BBB !

Apparently, the 18-200mm VR is weak from about 90-135mm. But unless you pixel peep, I doubt you can tell the difference.
