I am a D60 user and at times i feel that i maybe limited to functions that other higher range camera posses like radio function, video output slot to do tethering, noise control for ISO,AF motor,so on and so forth. However,i make do with what i have. i have a D60 kit+55-200mm+battery grip+flashlight+filters and etc.
Although this is what i have but i do take portraits, landscape and candids etc in terms of quality from a kit lens, there won't be much visible differences between a D60,D80,D90 unless u pixle peep. There are cheaper alternatives of lens out there like Tamron,Sigma,Tokina, that suits your needs. If its still too expensive then there is the BnS section.
What i'm saying here is not to say D60 is a camera that limits your creativity to take photos,What limits us humans is our mind, our creativity. Eg if i give you an apple and photograph it,it will still be and apple no matter which angle you shoot. But if you cut up the apple and photograph it,it will still be an apple but with a whole new perspective to it. so its just how you want your photos to be
Have fun snapping photos
