any predicitons on what the price of a 5D be after mk2 officially comes to the shops?

I got a 3K (excluding GST) quote from CP last week

I suppose should drop to $2.5K.

Hope to get a 2nd handed 5D below 2K after the release of 5D mark2..heehee;)

In time to come, FF DSLRs will be very affordable.

Honestly, the idea of getting the 5DM2 is really tempting. But I would still stick to 5D if this is my first upgrade (unless you have a lot of money to spare). Even if you have a lot of money, I reckon getting a couple of kick-arse lenses might be a better option.

I've been reading online reviews and stuffs and I reckon that the improvements made in 5DM2 isn't really a lot (to justify the 2K price difference)

Granted that there is the new Digic chip and HD video thingy, but I'm very happy with the performance of the Digic2 chip in my 5D. As for the HD video thingy, I think it's a novelty.

And sure the 5DM2 comes weather sealed. But unless all your lenses and flashgun are weather-sealed as well, it's not gonna benefit you.

Also, the smallest picture size produced by 5DM2 (correct me if I am wrong, but I think I'm close) is about 5MB. And if you take in RAW format, it's over 20MB. Imagine how big a CF card you need to have. And how fast it needs to be because it will take very long to transfer.

If I were to choose, I will get a 5D and use the money I saved from not getting the 5DM2 to buy good lenses such as the 16-35mm f/2.8L if you're into wide angle and the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM if you're into portraits and wildlife.

Lenses are better investment because they will last you through several generations of camera bodies.

Go for the newer machines... 5D Mark II. Use it with 14mm Mark II and u got a super duper ultra wide photos.. ;)

i agree!

a great body with fantastic glass for the price of a fantastic body with no glass.

unless you are rich or do it for a living, then 5DII + glass =D

I was wondering if Canon Singapore will be looking at the polls (including polls at other threads) and gleefully say to themselves, "wow, we could set the 5DMkII at higher price than original planned". Forum polling is like a mini market survey for them, in my opinion.

want to get a 5d mk II but hmm the price is quite +_+

sticking to my 50D for now, but surely would get 5D mk II

When I attended the Yervant workshop a few days ago, Yervant mentioned that he has a unit of the 5DMkii for testing. He said that the high ISO was wonderful and it will make the best wedding camera. This statement alone makes the 5DMkii a must-have for me. Now I can only wait for it to ship. :)

Got a quote of around $3300 from a camera shop at Sim Lim before GST. Name of the shop, The Camera Shop(yea not very original I know). I have my reservations about the shop but there you go....

read WOLS the opposite direction.

If you can ask the question 5D or 5D Mk II which means that you're in the position to be able to afford either one, so $$ will not be the deciding factor here.

So, then with that factor eliminated, then the choice is clear & simple.

5D Mk II

Of course!!.....

Go for it!!

I mean would you want to own old/passe technology or something new? And you can shoot video too....

5D Mk II definitely..
Having the option of the video as well.. No need to lug around a videocam, or sometimes worse still, whip out the phone and start to bungle the functions, before you know it, action gone.
