Upgade From D3100

I vote for D7k that will last you for at least 3 years before you thinking of changing ship...

I am a D3100 owner too, it is my very first DSLR, which was bought in July last year.
Prior I have 2 Minolta SLR, the oldest was bought in 1994 but broke down and the second one was sold away
to make room for the D3100.
I am relatively happy with the camera except
1) It does not have Fv Lock (Flash Exposure Lock)
2) It does not have Focal Plane Flash ( meaning low flash sync speed at 1/200th max)
3) It does not have flash commander mode. (meaning no iTTL for my SB700 when it is away from camera hotshoe)

For 3) I have to use my flash meter to replace the loss of iTTL and use my flash and camera in M mode. Not forgetting the flash triggers, without them it won't work.
Not very convenient.

I am new to DSLR but I know D7000 have all the 3. It is very attractive to me. haha

yep. been using all 3 features in my D7000 actively. Very very useful. Especially the commander mode for flash supporting multiple speedlights simultaneously which is very useful when doing creative lighting on your photography.

Till you venture into radio trigger flash photography. Wahahah :D where you can flash when CLS fails you

you could always trade it for a used D80

haha... still trying to learn the manual settings of my flash so wont venture too far from remote TTL for now. Thanks for the headsup though :)

Is the CLS unreliable?
I am using Pixel Soldier radio flash triggers, they are good both indoor and outdoor with
my SB700 and 5400xi. Together with a flash meter they works well with the D3100.
With CLS I would have 2 fewer items to carry.

The requirement is line of sight, direct or bounced. Of cos, bounced commanding light is less reliable than direct line of sight.
