I won't repeat what most has already mentioned.
What I do is to get the person to agree on the price through sms. eg. "Deal at $1150 per condition stated?"
If not, just walk off from it. You have nothing to lose except your time.
This is why meet at your convenience.

So far, my experience with buying and selling at cs bns has been good.
Part of it can be my good fortune and part of it, I will try to "sum up" the person I will be dealing with. If he is too pushy even via sms, just "walk away" from it.

Normally when someone said that there's a shop that sell it cheaper, it is most likely fake. Second-hand shop will never be cheaper, in fact, they're overpriced. Standard reply to this kind of people: "Please go ahead and purchase it from them."

You would be surprised, sometimes the 2nd hand shops do offer cheaper deals and further more, the sets are serviced and checked by the shops before its sold to you. Not referring to this case of course, bad luck for the TS to meet these kind of buyers.

Next time bring a long a friend too.... ask him/her to sit a little distance away and tell the cheapo buyer that you got someone else waiting in line if they want to bargain.

when i meet such people, its always best to tell them to "go ahead and buy from the shop if its such a good deal".

You would be surprised, sometimes the 2nd hand shops do offer cheaper deals and further more, the sets are serviced and checked by the shops before its sold to you. Not referring to this case of course, bad luck for the TS to meet these kind of buyers.

I think those lens that are cheaper are most likely the ones that have been infected with fungus, but cleaned by the shops. I ever sold a lens with a slight fungus to them, and they happily offered me a low price for it. I sold it to them eventually as I did not think anyone will want a fungus infected lens in CS. They wanted to charge me $90 for just the cleaning but I did not want to, as I no longer use that lens. After that, I saw the lens in the display cabinet for sale some days later.

From then on, I do not want to buy from 2nd hand shops again, because I personally feel that fungus can never be 100% cleaned from lenses. I will subject myself to the danger of probably having fungus on the lens again some time later, or worse, infect other lenses with it.

So to those buyers who says 2nd hand shop cheaper, go ahead and buy from them and take the risk. Walk around Peninsula and you will see that similar sets sells for almost same price in different shop. If there is an odd one out selling cheaply, you got to ask yourself why that is so.

So to TS, :thumbsup: for you for not selling it to the 2 "buayas' (as I see your item is still available)....And to Cheong, you can continuing sucking your thumb.

I find it fine as long as the lens coating has not be eaten into by the fungus but it all boils down to what your comfort level is. I found an old film lens that has really bad fungus infection so I had it cleaned up, it had been years and there's no sign of the fungus coming back.

Sad to note that they are still potential buyers who treat such transactions like bargaining at a shop ... don't we find the points raised by the potential buyer strangely familiar? I last heard that when my mom has to haggle over the price of fish @ a local wet market ...

Guess for some, the price of integrity is depreciating ...

Scrutinize the camera and nit pick over things like strap a bit worn at the lug ends; remove the viewfinder cap and say inside not clean. (think how the trainers scrutinize your rifle cleaning during BMT and you get the idea)

Hi all, just thought I'll share this incident that took place this afternoon.

I was contacted the night before about a D300 I wanted to sell. I agreed to lower my asking price after the prospective buyer said he could get the camera at a lower price at those 2nd hand shops at Peninsular and asked if I could match it.

The next day, we met at City Hall to deal. I thought he was a sincere buyer as we had confirmed the meeting one more time through SMS before I headed out. At City Hall, he brought along a friend and he proceeded to check the camera for more than 15 minutes before pronouncing he was satisfied with the condition as it was very mint.

I thought the deal was in the bag but to my utter surprise, he started asking me what my best price was. I replied that we had already settled on the price through SMS but he said that was an "indicative price" because now he had other 2nd hand shops offering him 80 dollars less than what we had agreed upon. Then he and his friend proceeded to say that they could just walk over to Peninsular to buy the camera so I should match their new asking price since I had gone through the trouble of bringing my camera out.

Now, I know $80 might not sound like a lot, but it's lack of the principle of the deal that put a bad taste in my mouth. Those who use club snap know that the price is settled before the meetup; we're not a brick-and-mortar shop set up at the convenience of buyers to walk in and out of to bargain.

I had taken the trouble to meet the buyer at a place of his convience and am frankly irked by the fact that he tried to use my goodwill to pressure me into accepting something we had not agreed upon. I tried explaining this to the man but he brushed it off repeatedly with his "short walk to Peninsular" excuse.

Everyone is out for the best deal for himself, that much I understand. But I just thought that at the very least he could have left the bargaining on the phone and the dealing in person.

Anyway, decided to share this here as I don't want others to have their time wasted in the same manner as me. If a middle-aged dude who goes by Cheong contacts you with the number 96432470 and wants to buy anything from you, make doubly sure that you guys etch the dealing price in stone.

Don't let your time go down the drain to another "indicative price".

I'm sorry to hear that and i'm glad you didnt fall into that trap. I believe they wanted to deal at cityhall because it's near to peninsula and they can work that to their advantage (hence the persistent on "short walk"), though it may really be also convenient la.. they probably wun buy from that shop and instead wait for another prey. If you can afford to wait, never let these people have their way. i rather carry it all the way home again. it's a matter of principles..

As a seller, i hate people bargaining after a deal is struck, unless the condition is reasonably different from what i advertised. Of cuz, that wont happen because i will check before selling.

As a buyer, i will not bargain once i strike a deal unless it is in a distinctively different condition from the advertisement. if you advertised as mint and we agreed on a price we both felt it's fair for a mint condition, but when i see the product and found it's 7 or 8 i will state a price that i feel it's fair and we negotiate to a price we both feel is fair, if not then deal off i guess. thankfully till now the people i met in CS are ok and i never had to do that..

Yep. Mostly those shops that can be trusted are located at ulu places if I'm not wrong. I only trust BNS section so far cause every second-hand shops i visited are much more expensive than BNS section. =x

I just recently sold my Tamron 17-50 at $400 at 9-10 condition without realizing that the price is quite low compared to other sellers. The 1st buyer came and examined and paid without asking for further discount as he is aware of my low price and good condition lens. Then i did received some calls to lower my price and want more discounts. To me, since i've quoted wrong price but i honoured my selling price to the 1st buyer who came all the way to my place. Those who offered lower price i simply don't bother to reply. Don't feel pressured to sell if the price or situation is not beneficial to you.

I'm so sorry to hear ur story. It's really not nice to do such things coz in my opinion the price is already agreed before meeting up unless a said-10 is actually-7 or sth like that. But normally I'd ask for pics n then no more bargaining after meeting up. There was once a guy whom I met, he wanted almost 20% discount on the agreed price n condition. I jz walked away politely but I was also lucky it was near my place... Don't worry bro, he will kana whack by some ppl in the future
