get a canon bp-200 and a CD audio cable and i'll help you fix it up for free. any takers?

I WANT!!

ok guys, get your bp200s and cables, and let's arrange a date (pref sat morning/ early afternoon, then we can go out and test-drive the vgs eh?) and if someone can offer a small place quite central, we can do a little "workshop". just need a private place/ corner where we can plug in a few soldering irons and a table to do the cut-aways.

No other functions except shutter release... I prefer the VC-7D like that... but for the 5D users, I think the DIY BP-200 might be a better option... this one on offer looks rather ugly... and really AA batteries dun cut it for a DSLR... u will find yourself running through lots of batteries over a long shoot...

besides the bp200 mod there isn't an option really. even if the dicain one pans out its still a mod that requires you to stick a connector into your remote port and all you get is shutter release control on the vg. the 5d wasn't designed for a vg in mind. but i'd agree that using AAs isn't practical. in fact i've reserved my bp200's battery bay for inclusion of a wireless remote which i've been working on. so far changing batts on the 5d is still easy enough even with the bp200 hanging off it.

Actually I am not sure if a dedicated vertical grip cannot be made for the 5D... some re-engineering of the boards might be required but a company determined to do something can easily get it done neatly and safely... it's a bit like getting the camera modded to shoot only IR... except this requires some mods on the electronic side of things...:dunno:

that will require modding and taking apart the camera
its not that easy. you need in-depth electronics and camera knowledge. the only people i can see doing this are those engineers in this business.

I would be interested in this grip if they ship to Australia. I've been watching the Dicain grip thread for awhile now, and this looks like the next best thing. Anyone know when is the release date?

Btw, I usually never run out of power with my 5D, but maybe having AA batteries as an option can be a good thing when travelling or away from a power source. Just go and buy some AA batteries, sure it won't be as powerful, but it's better than nothing!

Definitely... big stuff if you mod the boards... but as I say doable... but then again I have no knowledge of electronics and just maybe.... perhaps can just connect the leads to the leads that lead to the shutter, dial control, etc... like just tapping it... I dun know if I am spouting rubbish but at least u dun have to meddle with the boards....

i think opening up the cam is the biggest challenge - and i know smtan will post a page from his CD of KM parts to show us the parts of the 5D :)

if anyone has the guts to volunteer a 5D do let me know. ;)

Well I'm willing to pass the soft copy to anyone who wants it. either the Dynax 5D or 7D.

sacrifice *ahem* offer a 5d for the job and i'm sure there'll be takers :bsmilie:

thats the easy part, putting it back together is not :)

What's worse is when u thought u put everything back and discovered u have some apre parts left over... kekeke...

ok, back on track, anyone wants to organise a get-together one of these Saturdays to mod bp200s? we should get a private place somewhere central where its convenient for everyone and we can plug in soldering irons. time per mod should be 2 to 4 hours total, depending on soldering skills and attention to detail ;) so we'll need to also round up the "instructors":

so far i believe muko, smtan, eow, (someone else can't recall) and myself have modded so we can walk you through it, if they are available. all you need is a bp200, CD audio cable and preferrably your own soldering iron as we should be doing one-to-many otherwise it'll take forever if its one at a time.

first step, place. any volunteers?

woah it looks good! wasn't interested in a grip at first, but now...

anyone feel like making a call to taiwan?

Maybe Perly can talk with them on making an order for us...
Someone here can get in touch with Perly?
