You see, from the few responses, you hear that people are ok with the wall fans blowing directly onto or towards the table.

I am giving another perspective. When you have fans blowing direct, it 'suck' or rather extract the air from the surroundings, mainly the food cooking that were not being extracted from the exhaust system. So it is diverted back at you. What you could have done is to provide more extraction fans to remove the heat trapped within the enclosure. Natural outside air will need to displace the air being extracted. More trees surrounding the food court will keep the outside air cool.

Of course for those that prefer the fans blowing directly, it is also OK. If you have seen thee hawker center being 'upgraded'. The number of stalls increased and space within each stall reduced. Hawker center is an essential part of Singaporean living. We need to plan them better and it could be our unique feature.

I have ever seen mist fans in food court choked full of dust bunnies blowing water droplets everywhere.

Let me try to explain in cat language, hahaha.

1st, we have the great NEA and they run the hawker centres here. They farm out their duties and just collect licence fees. Look at our hawker centres, the cleaning standard is just "@#$#*&$#". Who is responsible? NEA will tell you it is not their problem. It is about time to wake up!!!

2nd, who install those wall fans in hawker centre? Did they use their brain when they installed them or at least consult users? The fans blow direct at the table and with disposable utensils, you can imagine the condition. Singapore is also a place where the consumption of tissue paper will rank among the top in the world. naturally, you will find them on the floor more often than on the table with these fans.

3rd, Singaporean have no healthy recreation or rather not much choice for such activities. It could be the weather but most people spend their leisure in shopping malls. If you do a survey, I am sure you will get the answer. OK if they are there to shop or buy something but most times, it is about food. So, life is about work and food. We should look into a more balance life style... for example photography..hehe

I was curious and did a check with my fellow colleagues. I asked a very simple question to each one of them. So how is your weekend and where do you go and what did you do? The answers are almost identical for most. The rare ones are: I brought my children out to the seaside camping, we went to climb Bukit Timah hill, we went to Pulau Ubin, etc.

I would also love to see other responses and give some ideas to fellow Singaporean or even FT working here what else they can do. RC or our so called Community Clubs should orgainse more meaningful events rather than the usual makan events and bazaar which is again food.

Suck or blow, doesn't matter. It is necessary to understand what these fans are for. I think these are more for ventilation rather than making you feel shiok. They should not have been pointing at the table. But the everyday hawker and cleaners see fans only must tilt it to blow at table, thinking it is for human comfort. Nowadays hawker center also have high louvered ceiling for hot air to escape. There is so much that can be done with limited budget. Not everyday I want to go to hawker center. When I don't want to perspire or smell like the food, I will go to MacNonalds or Pollibeans.

What is uniquely Singapore from my observation this morning:

1) Most unhappy elderly population. Every elderly is frowning and looking for something (jobs, scraps, xmms or something to complain)
2) People cycling on pavements for pedestrian (cement coloured) and pedestrian walking on cyclist track (tar coloured)
3) NTUC fairprice flooded with PRCs aunties everyday (no wonder 69)
4) Everyone in a rush, 没时间 but have time to kopitiam
5）Perception of bargain is must be cheapest in the world and not a fair value below original price.
6) Poor apple being poked, squeezed and finger nailed then rejected and thrown back on display
7) Singapore women don't like Singapore men for many various reasons
8) Singapore men don't like Singapore women for equally many reasons
