U/W casing causes bright ring ard Photos

Hi all,

Not sure if this is a casing problem or diffuser. I try to take pictures with my ixus200is inside the ikelite casing, and all the photos have a circle of light at the upper left corner(i suppose that's because the flash is located there)

The white transparent diffuser is there, so why is this happening? Any remedy?

Though i rather wait for your photos,

there are 2 things in my mind now.

Is your camera body colours other than black?

Does this casing have a "shroud" that is covers the lens barrel?

Hi heres what im talking about. The first pic is my casing, taken without the casing of course not sure if i install the diffuser wrongly.

The rest are photos with the halo effect on the right side.

Mine is the ixus 200is camera , blue color

It seems to be the casing internal causing the flare..
quick question, does the lens extend beyond the inner part of the casing into the lens dome area? Try to zoom in so it extends beyond and take a picture again.. could be that part of the plastic causing the flare..

You can try using those black foam sheets or black sheets of paper and make a dome so that it sits into the lens port and extrudes towards the front of the camera, blocking out the flash..
cos my casing has this black rubber port that the lens extends into to block out internal flash..

K, its quite obvious its from the inside of the dome.

I second viix' comments.

Like some underwater casing with protruding lens dome/port it should have a shroud to prevent internal reflection.

One way you can try is black taping the right angle area of the casing here the dome starts to protrude.

that way, the flash doesn't "travel" thru the plastic body (think fibre optic).

I guess what causes this is part the dome's too big that part of the flash beams goes straight towards the glass front cover.

do u guys mean this inner black circle thing? i shd tape ard this area to make sure that the lens doesnt get the reflection?

try moving the diffuser further forward, all the way to the edge of the lens port.

this is weird, the reflections are clearly from inside the lens port.

I am not sure if Ikelite provides, but Panasonic UW cases comes with a donut shaped sticker to dull out the shiny surfaces of the tip of the lens. It just might be your flash reflecting off this tip of lens can create an image on the glass lens of the ikelite.

number 2, the shroud i have been mentioning is provided to you. part of the flash might still be inside the diameter of this shroud.

number 3, you can just start trying to black tape areas around the casing until the rings disappear.... no harm trying. just remember not to black tape until the flash is made less effective.

I finally solved the problem, thanks for the advices. it is the problem of internal reflection as pointed out by many here. The shroud is not enough to cover the lens from the internal reflection of the flash, but then there is a rubber band thingy there which i can pull up slightly. that helps to reduce the halo effect.
