posting an article here about a tsunamigenic earthquake warning, seems that padang may experience another big one .. hope the scientists are wrong

Hai .. so sad that he/she did not know or fail to AWARE that everyone in this world are inter link tigether. What happens on the other surface of the world will create an impact to the rest of us. e.g.: china drought, not rice, SG's rice goes up.

Just wondering if a once in thousand year mega strong earthquake in sumatra will have any significant effect in Singapore? I think most of our housing are not designed to be earthquake proof. Hopefully we will not end up like Hati. :dunno:

Singapore is in line with the mentioned Mentawai fault and Padang. Definitely can be felt by us if a big one like 8.5 hits.

Tsunami will not hit us from this region as the Sumatran Island itself is protecting us. The Quake itself is the worry for us. Imagine an 8.5 near/around Town of Padang beneath less than 10km from surface can travel with significant energy towards us.

Almost frequently tremors occurs in the Jambi-Bengkulu-Padang Town area. Yesterday alone a mag 4.5 at 150km depth and a mag 4.8 400km south of Bengkulu at 10km depth occured today.

Anyway, just be prepared and not get too paranoid.

Apparently, these few scientists have predicted quite a few earthquakes very accurate. Look like there a BIG ONE coming soon. Those planning any trips, do stay away from the coastal area.

A couple of us are lucky to be alive and escaped unharmed during the massive Padang earthquake on 30 Sep.

We were stuck there for 3 days, we witnessed the destructions & death (it's painful and heartbreaking ..).......and finally got home to our loved ones safely,

Life is precious. We appreciate efforts of the rescuers and people who cared for us,
and TS is being nice to pass us the articles so we can be safe.. :thumbsup:

our bus/coach was swaying so much at the mountains that i did not felt the earthquake struck.. i was sound asleep somemore..
next time during travel trips, i wll prepare more stuff for emergencies..:sweat:

If the prediction is accurate... well sad to say we better brace ourselves for death toll of maybe 200,0000 to 300,000 over people. Reasoning? Until now the Indonesian authorities are not heeding the warnings and doing anything about it. Many reasons such as economical cost of relocating the residents factor in of course and also where to relocate them to? And considering no one has accurately predicted a earthquake's exact timing, governments dont see such warnings as credible. Afterall how do you stop people from returning to their previous homes if the supposed earthquake does not happen in the time window? Just look at countries like Phillippines where the recent Mt Mayon eruption. I mean the volcano is seriously erupting but you have residents who die die want to sneak back to their homes... crazy and silly but it happens.....

many of the people along the coast are fishermen, you relocate them to higher grounds, they can't go fishing anymore, its their livelihood to be at the coast, its tragic but they have got no choice. They don't have office work like most of us..........
