Drive Safe People. I think, its crazy.

May be someone should come up with a device fix to the car (as part of the cashcard reader) that give warning sound when driver travel faster that the limit. The higher the different, the louder the sound.

Such device will also detect or download the speed limit of different roads.

Example, at the road that stated 60, warning will be activated at 65.
At the road that stated 90, the warning will be activated at 100.

u r right...

i was using my handphone in the car which was parked in my HDB carpark lot but with engine running while waiting for my wife when a TP on motorcycle drove passed when he was on his way to visit his colleagues in the neighborhood police post. He saw me and i was ****ed.

Next time, when you use a phone, step out of the car.

Not even when the car is in the parking lot? This is too much.

This is like calling a person "killer" even he just hold a cutter.

actually, th normal speed linit for most rd is 50 to 60, everyone just thinks it's at 70,

A few years back when I was having my class 3 driving test...i was on this long strectch of straight road near bukit batok MRT. There was no other vehicles on the road and i keep my speed strictly at 50km/h.

Later, the tester ask how come i was driving so slow so i told him that the speed limit is 50km/h, then he not happy and started ticking on the test report. Somemore, he told me that I should go faster since there were no other cars on the road. :dunno:

Well..i failed the test in the end. ;(

whatever device is invented, it will amount to nothing as long as the driver has not changed their mentality. all cars have a speedometer, not enough!

Can anyone confirm? Is it really illegal to use handphone in the car, regardless of handsfree or not, or whether the car is parked or moving? What if the car's engine was off?

Even using the handsfree set is Illegal !

The rationale being, talking on the phone distracts you, and you will be less than 100% alert.

So, perhaps we should drive in cubicles away from our passengers, radio should be banned, tint should be allowed (sun is distracting), polarising sunglasses must be worn, crash helmets should be compulsory, roll cages must be installed in the cars.

This is absurb. Being caught in a parked car when using the handphone is simply ridiculous. Maybe I should take down the number plate of the police car I saw a moment ago which did not signal when changing lane, and he was using his walkie talkie while driving.

Siao eh.

marc i hear u bro! but take down the TRAFFIC POLICE's details and hunt them if u must. cos i heard from one of my police friends, that even TP's hunt police vehicles doing police work.

some say they are doing their job, some say they are too much. i say i hope i'm not that sway! :)

I've noticed 3 new types of cameras used by the TP: 1. the hand held one, 2. the black box placed on the roadside, 3. and the tripod mounted type.

Does anyone know what type of camera system is used? Digital or film? If film, what type of film? High ISO? High contrast/resolution? Infra-red? I've never seen a flash being emitted from these cameras, so i'm just wondering how they take a photo of a vehicle at night...do they have to pan? Is it accurate at all?

for the record, the speed limit was revised to up to 70 for normal main roads and 90 for highways, up from 60 and 80 respectively. Also, it is not an offence to use a mobile phone if your vehicle is parked in a parking lot. You can declare that you have arrived at your destination. The rule is that you are not allowed to use a mobile phone while you are on the road, even if you have pulled over. I sit in my car and call people all the time, right in front of police even when i am picking someone up and he is late. Some police officers are just a bit bored and think they can fool you. Know your rules. Its like the no photo taking thing.

As well intentioned everyone on this thread is, the issue regarding using of mobile phones in a parked car: where can one find the statement of legislation?

Try visiting the SPF website. Shouldn't they made more accessible.

I was detained for half hour at the checkpoint when I declare my fuel guage not working (actually they never spotted it yet, and my purpose is to ask for 'dip check') on the way to JB to repair.
Now I have a summon from LTA and a compound fine of $50 or attend court.

You think I should go to court to explain that I was on the way to repair the faulty guage or plead guilty of "failure to maintain the fuel guage in proper working condition" as in the offence?
Perhaps you will get more advice/views if you post your case at www.mycarforum.com

Good luck!

my understanding is that the act of using Hphones w/o handfree set per se (while driving) is not illegal. however, the appropriate offence to throw at any driver, if caught, is dangerous driving.

Use of mobile telephone while driving
65B. —(1) **Any person who, being the driver of a motor vehicle on a road or in a public place, uses a mobile telephone while the motor vehicle is in motion shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both, and, in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both.

(2) **In this section —

"mobile telephone" includes any hand held equipment which is designed or capable of being used for telecommunication;

"use" , in relation to a mobile telephone, means to hold it in one hand while using it to communicate with any person.

I got all this from a the raod traffic act.
http://statutes.agc.gov.sg/non_vers...e.pl?&actno=Reved-276&date=latest&method=part
Therefore, using a handsfree is FINE. And the vehicle needs to be in motion for it to be an offence. Tell the cops to go back to school!

Same old rule of "you can do anything you want, just don't get caught" applies here. HOWEVER, time and again, i've personally seen people using HPs without a handsfree set, and they either drive damn slow or drive like they're drunk. All of them are oblivious to what's happening around them.

Here, speed limit in built up area is 50 :D
but everyone wants to go faster.

By the way, what i quoted IS THE LAW....stupid cops!

so, if the law is such as quoted by szekiat, then those cops referred to in the carpark incidents (in earlier posts) were clearly acting outside the law. if i were a victim, i would pursue this line of reasoning with TP, but i would want to confirm the specific charge against me first.

Hmm...talking about this, yesterday at 1820h in the Chin Swee Tunnel just before Outram Exit going towards AYE, I just saw a Grandis turning turtle some 500m in front of me. Scary man. Actually not going very fast, 100 at most for the bulk of the vehicles, and that stretch was pretty straight. Hit the right and then bounced off hard on the left (just after Merchant Court entry ramp), could see the concrete shoulder blocks flying out as the impact was quite big. Hope the occupants were ok, couldn't really stop as i was on lane 1. Total loss probably, thank god that the cabin integrity was not breached, else there will surely be loss of lives.

Think maybe i will start going to Pasir Gudang one of these days again to sharpen my skills.

Drive with situation awareness and defensively people. Sticking to the law sometimes doesn't help.
