Is Tamron coming out with the similiar zoom range soon? :embrass:

its really shocking how nikon has serious gaps in its nikon like. if you filled thom hogan's survey , you'll see he is lobbying nikon for something similiar to the tokina. If we get all the gaps filled by third parties, the DX format will thrive compared with full frame even if it gets cheaper. - look at how much smaller, lighter and cheaper this guy is compared to the 80-200 AF-ED /70-200 VR.

not quite the same but nikon is expected to release a 55-200 VR consumer lens soon.

they already got a 55-200 without VR... i rather want a 50-135+/- lens, at least it goes side by side with the 17-55DX.

This lens makes a good portrait lens for me. The bokeh in the sample pictures look quite good.

BTW is the tripod mount detachable? Can it be attached/detached without unmounting the lens from the body?

heh... good point. never occur to me to try removing it. apologies for the oversight. :p

actually, economy_rice is right. this is a lens dat nikon (some canonites might also say the same for canon) shld have made, rather than the (IMO) truly awful 55-200.

well the 55-200 was meant to be a "dual" kit lens for d50. :bsmilie: not for professional usage tho

Canon has a 55-200 that's less-than-desirable. ;) :bsmilie:

saw in today paper selling at $1137 but nikon mount only

just checked with the folks at TK - the tripod collar cannot be removed.

and can someone tell CP not to give us the 'freebies', and discount the freebie prices fm the lenses' selling prices? :bsmilie:

Hmmm... collar not removable...

I think I gotta give it a hands-on trial.
