Thanks for share, bro.

IMO, we cannot tell how good it is at F2.8 with that kind of web size pic you post. Do post the pic at 100% to see how the lens performs wide open.

Thanks Bro for sharing.

The 2 pic looks fabulous to me. At 350bucks, and some more with a B+W filter, I wanna to get one too, if I didn't have what I got already.

I guess the only drawback is the weight.

Thanks bro. am indeed blessed to have gotten such a good deal! heh. just good to know i didn't get a lemon.

and yes, weight is really terok sometimes. walkabout 4 hrs...no joke for me oredi. am still intending to get the toki 12-24mm. hope that's not heavy.

Well, the Toki12-24 is much lighter on your shoulder for you to bring around. And then, if you get a used copy now, they are readily available as there are many CSers who have moved on to FX, so selling away this lens.

The Tokina 28-70 was my favourite film lens. Just not wide enough for my shooting in DX.
It is really good value now I think.

Conclusion: I would say that I do not hesitate to go to F2.8 when I need to in low light situation or when I wanna to get enough bokeh with larger aperture. For almost all practical purposes, it is largely good enough. I shouldn't have limited myself to F4 all this while. Well, this is called pushing the envelop, and get out of your comfort zone. I should have done this as soon as I got this lens. Anyhow, it ain't too late la. I did this test to find out for myself and also share what I found out with fellow CSers.

I agree with you totally. I have this lens for about 10 years now, since its 'birth' :) worked like a gem with my 800si and still works like one with my DSLR today. The trio from Tokina (together with AT-X Pro 80-200 and 20-35), have served me well:)

Bro, you're such a BiG fan of Tokina - great lenses at affordable prices.

Yeah, Tokinas seems to last a lifetime....

I have had this lens since my F4/F5 days. It si still in my dricabi waiting for me to put it on my d700. I love the weight, cos heavy stuff make me more stable. Maybe should get it out now.....

hi guys i am looking for a 2nd hand copy of this 28-80mm lens too. Jus too afraid that i wun get a sharp copy, Anyone any advice? how much will the 28-80mm f2.8 cost? Would the tamron 28-75mm be a better choice?

Haha, you emphasised the word 'BiG'. It was the cheaper alternative I had to take back then in the attempt to upgrade to faster lenses as I couldn't afford Minolta f2.8 lenses then. For reasons I can't explain, I opted to go for Tokina (probably they were the only one making the three lenses I was looking for). Found how wonderful they are and never regret....still upset they don't make lenses for Sony anymore though...turning to Tamron for the macro and probably Sigma for the UWA later....hope they, esp the Sigma 12-24mm is good.

Ah, I din know that Tokina dun make their lenses for the Sony/MinoltaKonica mount.

But, Sony has got the fabulous CZ lenses!

Tokina 11-16 for UWA, it's a absolutely fantastic lens.

And Sigma 150 macro, another killer lens.

I personally won't buy anything from tamron, the plastic feel is just.. urg.

Good lens to get from Sigma would be their new 24-70 f/2.8 HSM.

I'm also getting ready to ditch my D90 kit lens (like within 24 hours haha) so doing some pretty intense research now =X. Tokina 28-70 sounds pretty good. i think i saw 1 floating on BnS lately.~

Ya, but CZ lenses are soooo expensive :( I was and still am looking for cheaper alternatives.

Agree with you Tamron feels very plastic, they are indeed plastic I believe :) Wow, ditching kit lens within 24 hours...that's lightning fast :)

I am now seriously considering the Sg24-70 f2.8 - the thing is that when you need wider, there is so much you can move back, and sometimes just for the perspective, 24 would be great. Currently, there is the older macro version and this new HSM version. As I do not need that fast AF, I am more inclined towards the older and cheaper version. As for PQ, based on the test reports, it seems to be good enough for me.

I'd personally go for the Sigma 24-70 HSM. It's not only the motor, but IQ as well. For 1.4k i save 1.3k compared to if i bought the nikon 24-70 (which is again another different level).

But if i used a cannon system, the Cannon 24-70L is about 600ish more than the sigma? not too sure but it's not alot more expensive. Thus u get better assurance of quality, and better resale value.

I tried the tamron 28-75, totally didn't like the feel at all, with the icky focus spin feeling, and stiff zoom ring. And the focus ring moves when AFing -_-

Well it's still a powerpacked value for money lens i guess.

Oh btw i got myself a nikon 35-70mm today instead. haha. Sweet Sweet Sweet lens.
