Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8

from what i read, most prefer the version with variable aperature instead of this as it seems to be sharper.

OT again!
Went to Sigma site and found this options which nobody mentioned.

4. Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 EX DC HSM

It has built in HSM which is suitable for DSLR without motor.

y not consider Sigma AF 10-20mm f/4-5.6 DC EX HSM? cheaper and nt much difference?

TS really going to hate me soo much for the OT

Care to share the link to the spec for this Sigma AF 10-20mm f/4-5.6 DC EX HSM ? I couldnt seem to find it on Sigma's website.

Hi there, I dont really get what you meant. The Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 EX DC HSM specs states on its website the maximum aperture f3.5 and minimum f22 so doesn't that makes it a variable aperture lens?

the f3.5 is a newer lens compared to the f4-5.6. f3.5 is a constant aperture through 10mm to 20mm whereas the older one is not. aperture number increases with the zoom from 10mm to 20mm.

for example, f3.5 at 10mm. when you zoom to 20mm, f3.5 does not change. as for f4-5.6, f4 at 10mm. when zoom to 20mm, f4 becomes f5.6 automatically so to speak.

as for f3.5 to f22. this does not mean it is 'variable'. it is trying to tell you the aperture min n max setting. im not sure but i believe not all lens are capable of f22 or even higher.

ya.
not all lens can go to f/22.
but some can even go to f/32 n i read f/51.
but this figure is seldom advertised loudly.
normally, ppl r concern with the widest aperature

oic.So its flexibility of minimum possible aperture through the focal lengths or not.Thanks.

i can c alot of pple have replied to the threads.

after reading rockwell, i seem not to have too good opinions of sigma uwa lens. Tokina seems 2 b the best.

any views regarding the tokina 12-24 f/4?

thanks

check other website like slr gears n dpreview.

As a Nikon user, I'm sure the Tokina 11-16 is your best bet. The Sigma one has improved since he reviewed it (or perhaps he got a lousy copy) but still not quite as sharp and distortion remains the same.

hey bro, i've done some of my own research cos i'm considering one also. i've read many users comments bout how krw's comments are typically biased. i've got some pretty useful information from other sites such as dpreview and photozone.de (its pretty good imo) it provides a simple review for me for me to start eliminating choices haha! hope it helps :)

haha bro mind summarising? wad r ur impt research findings? haha

erm tamron 10-24 is worth a skip
sigma 12-24 and toki 11-16 are ur best bets.

depends also on the range that u wana cover and also not all shops provide the models that u want.

what about tokina 12-24? used to be a very gd lens until its brother 11-16 came out. haha

i have been using the 11-16 for a couple of months now.

Now regrets- the lens is extremely sharp, pretty much almost as good as the nikon 12-24 (if i remember right)

Can I know what's the price for T11-16? Is the f2.8?

comparing between the 2, which one is a better buy? trade off the range for 1 mm wider + 2.8? is it worth it? which would be better for wide + walk around?

Take KRW's word with a table spoon of salt.

See what Thom Hogan said about Sigma 10-20.

This thread is a bit old, but have photos taken with some of the other candidates.

I never regret having the Tokina 11-16, but it is also up to you whether the far end focal length is enough or not? What I mean is the 16mm yea,but I can say the f2.8 won"t be much in use for landscapes shoots unless your shooting in low light on some kind of events or parades and you just wanna shoot wide, hehe.
The sharpness is definatly a quarantee and it does serve me well.
