Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 User Group

Just got this lens recently from a second hand shop at peninsula plaza for $600 with 6 months local warranty left. My first uwa lens :)

Tested it out and loving this lens..

If I want to get a ND filter, is there any recommended ones that I can get?

I use B+W ND110, image below was shot at around noon with blazing sun right above. 20 sec exposure at f22 iso100, water is totally smoothened and also managed to record some motion of the slow moving clouds.

Wow!! You have a nice pic there..

I have did a quick check in the forum but can't find any price guide for filters. Where do you get yours from and how much you get it for?

Under the bns section, it is going for $90-100 for a second hand one.

I just bought a tokina 11-16. Would like to ask if there are any tianya or cokin filters that are suitable for tokina 11-16?

They work but not at 11mm..you will see the holder (even the UWA type holder). At 12mm and above, you're fine.

This lens is really money well spent. I wasn't expecting to use it much while on travels but when in Italy, this lens was used more than 90% of all my shots..you really do need a UWA lens to capture buildings like in Italy..nothing else can capture everything.
Some examples are in this thread…all taken with this lens:

Nice pics pls post more. Rarely hv chance to use my but will try it out next mth :)

Needless to say, this lens is great for landscapes but I realised that it's even more impressive when I use it for street shooting. The sharpness really helps and the photos always pleasantly surprise me.

So what filter size will be suitable?

this lens using size 77dia..
i m using cokin uwa holder(1slot only) think it P-holder, with out filter(screw in) it ok on 11.. i dont see vignetting on it..

Can I use CPL filter for this lens

i am using hoya, slim cpl.. can no problem with it..

No vignetting at 11mm? i'm thinking of buying this lens and a polarizing filter...but am holding back because of the vignetting issues...but if someone can feedback that no vignetting at all, with the polarizing filter, then i can go all out!
btw, i'm using Nikon D-7000.

thanks!

i am using canon.. nikon than i am not too sure cos the crop is different.. my is 17.6mm yr is abit wider only 16.5

I used Tokina cpl which is not slim at all on my Canon 40d with no vignett on 11mm. Vignette will come if u have 2 or more filters mounted

Based on kenrock review :

Avoid using a polarizer, because with lenses this wide you'll more likely get a dark band across your sky than a dark sky. This is because sky polarization differs as you look across the sky, and wide lenses see a huge swath of sky.

How true is it?

Doesn't show in those photos I took leh. Mayb my eyes not good enough to see.... lol
