Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 User Group

Few questions:

1. What tripod and head are you using?
2. How do you use your tripod? Once you mount your camera on the tripod, how do you fire off a shot?
3. How do you focus?

Hi Hi,

1. What tripod and head are you using? I'm using the fotopro tripod.

2. How do you use your tripod? Once you mount your camera on the tripod, how do you fire off a shot? My set my tripod as per normal, standing on the steady ground. I fire shots by finger press, not by remote.

3. How do you focus?[/QUOTE] I used autofocus. & had try different shutter speed, iso and aperture.

Sorry if my answer is not so pro.
Thank you.

There is no pro or non pro answers. Just trying to understand where the problem is.

You problems are:

2. set my tripod as per normal, standing on the steady ground. I fire shots by finger press, not by remote. - This is the biggest problem, hitting the shutter or holding the camera while it is mounted on the tripod, it will still introduce shake to the camera making your pictures blur. You need to use a remote. and if your camera have mirror up mode, use that as well. In the absence of a remote use the camera's timer mode to fire off shots, and keep your hands off the camera or tripod one you hit the shutter button. This method will work but will limit your shutter speed to max 30s only.

3. Try to use hyperfocal distance focusing. Read here on what it is and how to apply it:

Give them a call first to find out which address to bring it to

Noted...Thanks a lot. :)

I suspect I have some back focusing problem with the lens. The point of focus isn't as sharp as the area slightly behind it.

Test using a focus test chart to be sure.

Can this lens be used on a full frame camera body?

Yes but only at 15mm due to vignetting.

Hi guys

Just wondering if anybody is using the cokin system of filter holders for the 11-16mm. I tried using the Cokin-P ones previously and I could see the edges of the filter. Wondering what size of the filter holder should I get for this lens?

Cheers!

Was using b+w 77mm. Everything is fine as long as long uv is not the thick type. Else, will see vignett at widest end

The P holders will cause vignetting on nikon body because on the crop factor. The z holder will be wide enough but cost a bomb. Hope tt helps

Thanks Tormont for the reply

So you do u use a screw on filter for this lens?

I am using Hitech filter holder and i experience heavy vignetting at > 13mm. Is this normal?

Question is which Hitech holder are you using? There are 2 versions sold here in SG. One is 85mm wide, one is 100mm wide.

You need to use 100mm wide filters. The holders are:

Lee Foundation Kit
Hitech 100mm holder
Cokin Z-pro holder

filters from any brand will work with any of the 3 holders as long as they are 100mm wide. The one exception is the Lee big stopper (10 stop filter), where it is more advisable to get the Lee holder due to the anti-light leaking foam seal that comes with the filter.

If you want to stick to your 85mm filters, then get a cokin P-series wide angle filter holder. With that, the vignetting will only start very slightly at 11.5mm

Thanks for the response.

I am using the 100mm Hitech filters(GND and ND). Its not with me now, but its about twice the length of the normal Cokin filters that i use to own. The Hitech filter adaptor, adaptor ring + filters were all purchased from TK last year. It has 2 slots.

Serious vignetting at below 13mm. So i assume that this is not normal? :(
