hmm wat setting did u use??? maybe with tat we can help and see wat setting is better

composition wise, i think it work well... reflection on water and the building..
not bad look quite sharp... will suggest higher shutter speed but looking at the bridge, it seem like gonna overexpose... maybe will suggest u to walk further down towards esplanade and get a shot like below... and use long shutter speed

Lumix Fz18 and 28 user pls give some comment..how can i make it better..give some advice pls

Hi dickson, wonder if you used a tripod? First thing I noticed is hand shake, but F8 at night can't possibly be done handheld I assume. So you probably shook the tripod when pushing the shutter?

I'm not very good at landscape photography myself, but I guess if you could model from someone better you can improve. I notice some plus point in skyguy's picture, i'll point them out. (these are where you can improve):

Technique:

1) Exposure went abit overboard. Not sure if you were trying to create a more glowing effect, but the lights on the water are abit too strong now, especially to the left.

2) Your horizon is tilted, about anti clockwise 5 degrees?

Composure:

1) can use rule of thirds better (maybe). in this case take away abit of water to show more sky. So that about 1/3 is sky, 1/3 is buildings, and 1/3 is water. you could turn on the grids on your FZ18 to help you here.

2) If I shot this picture from your spot, I would take the last building on the right out, and put the rest of the buildings right at the edge. so you have 1/3 on the right buildings, 2/3 sky and bridge "horizon" on the left. But this is preference. But still either way I think the last building looks extra.

Theres abit of distortion but thats not your fault haha. You can zoom in abit to clear it.

Overall good try, don't be too disappointed, especially if you only shot a few times. I bet you skyguy took at least 20 attempts to snap that 1 picture! =X (guessing ar, not saying you're a noob). You have to just keep playing with the settings until you're happy, one shot like that can take you 10 minutes o.o

haha... no lah... did do a few shot, coz was trying out different shutter speed, was taken during the ndp reheasal, so from evening till night standing at the same spot...

very constructive comment... agree with ombre comment on the last building thingy... sure better if to be remove... and yea... just saw ur setting thingy...night shot, push iso all the way to 100... as low as possible... setting wise i think shouldn't have anything wrong other then tat...

Nightshot still want to push until 100... =X skyguy is a patient man. Imagine 15 seconds become 30 seconds =X.

No doubt, way better results if you can afford to push down. =)

Pictures! I just can't finish editing all the shots that I've snapped!

Catitures again

Nice, I like the butterfly shot. Gonna try some nature shots soon...

Hey , nice flutter-by!
I haven't been able to get one to sit still long enough.
OK I have had a gutfull of marking this weekend, I'm going out to shoot something, with my camera and with my shotgun.
Goose season ends in December so I better let off some steam. Will post some pics this afternoon from a goose shoot.

Did anyone notice a thread about a Lumix outing or are FZers going to have their own?

didn't notice any lumix outing thread... this thread is the only thread about lumix outing... but we sure will have one on dec 21st i think... might pull my friend along who is also using lumix but not fz...

Yeah, It is Lumix outing anyone? by Excel-glsi or something like that just a few threads down the Panasonic menu page.

Bloody geese fought back this afternoon, my buddy jumped out of the car geese were flying over everywhere, he raced around to the boot got out his gun and started shooting right next to the car. Twit. Only good thing was the damage occurred on the only panel that had a scratch on it, just to left of dent. Thank God it was my car and not the wife's.

Cars can be fixed at least it didn't hit me, I was getting out of the drivers seat and felt it brush past my head.

Haha, about getting the butterfly to stay still... you have to chance upon it. But don't worry if you found it hard. My expedition that day was 3 hours long, I encountered like 10 over butterflies along the way and spent at least 5 minutes on each one. Only this shot turned out decent. So yea, its hard work, but its fun.

The thing I learnt about butterflies. Never chase those who fly in pairs, they'll never stop.

And I'm sorry about your car yea... just curious how did it hit your car? aren't you guys shooting geeses flying in the air?

Yeah, the geese were flying at about 30 metres up and towards the place where we parked the car. Glenn had moved about 20 metres away from the car and shot at a flock that was passing directly over him and heading towards me. He shouted "Look out!" just as I closed the car door. I put my hands up over my head and felt it brush past my arm as it smacked into the car. Glenn said the look on my face was priceless. We can laugh about it now but at the time he was very lucky my gun was not loaded.
The geese weigh about 1.5-2kg each dropping from 30 metres pick a bit of speed by the time they hit the ground.
A few years ago I was shooting at a hunting reserve with another mate who was walking to pick up a bird he had shot and another flock flew over, I cut loose with both barrels dropped one, reloaded dropped another, looked up to see my friend laying face down in the mud. Blood was pouring from his head, he was out cold, I thought he was dead. The goose laid him out. He came to, got the bleeding to stop and continued shooting. Later he needed six stitches at the Hospital. That was scary, but I still laugh when I think of him laying face down spread eagle in the mud.:bsmilie:
We now have a new rule to add to the many safety rules we impose on each other.
Rule 1 All shooters must be at least 50 metres from car before shooting.:nono:

Geese hunting...wow.

A serawak friend of mine told me a story about how his uncle and his nephew went hunting deer. They break away to find the deer in the serawak jungle.

The uncle saw the deer hiding in the bushes. He aim and bang!. He called his nephew and he ran to where the deer was and lo and behold...the one lying on the ground is his Nephew. Dead. The uncle sentence to prison for Murder. sad case man... I dunno how he thought that was a deer. :(

Hurried shot over the hunters shoulder.
