I'm not sure if my concept works... but here's my thought. Worth a stab in the dark perhaps.

If its too bright, then drop the shutter speed really really low, so that the whitish edges don't appear, and then use a (most probably diffused) flash to brighten up your subject again, so its more or less even =X

Sounds logical. Shall give it a go. Thanks once again!

alright, in case anyone is interested in the 3rd party LA3... anyway, i dun think i am keen to send it to sydney, sorry, too much trouble. I'm not in the need or eager to sell it... i just dun need it at this point of time... if somehow i got my hand on a TCON in the future i most probaly won't sell it.

Below are the photo for the 3rd party LA3

the adapter can be split into 2 piece, but both piece will have 52mm thread at the end so u can use 52mm filter... but when at wide adapter, once u attach a 52mm filter u won't be able to zoom...

Hi Vincent, haha its a really really really small world! Yes, you're the proud owner of my cam now, I heard you really liked it. Do post your pictures!

As for the price, you know, its not polite to ask! Haha! But she's been a great friend and we knew each other since young so, I definitely wouldn't cheat her on the price, hah. So its very new and pretty cheap cam you're holding, so don't worry about the price. (I was specially instructed not to say, but she didn't say that I can't tell you that she told me to keep shut, so go take it out on her.). Why am I beating around the bush?

And well, yes I got it from the US, its much cheaper than the Singapore retail price. Why don't you check the online stores and then you'll get a clue on how much the first hand price was... and an estimate on the 2nd hand price. =X

But anyway's you're a really lucky guy, from the way Veron described it seems like a perfect camera set up for you. (For now until you get a dSLR!), and you have a girlfriend who doesn't mind spending on you!

By the way you know me in person right? We've met once before.

Ah and you own some of my handmade accessories, haha, I suppose you'll figure how to use them.

Last thing I'm really curious about, any comments about the way I packed the cam? =X

Where's everyone? =(

I'm getting my dSLR tomorrow!

how you pack it ? was in a rush to tear open everything.. didnt really notice plus i bought a Cam bag for both the tcon and cam and all the cards etc etc. so everything went out from box to the bag straight away

overall i give it a 9.5 / 10 ? looks well taken care off.

didnt really need to make use of the accessories. care to explain the use of the items ??

;p;p;p Thanks @

you have a hood for the TCON and the other plastic thingy is a flash diffuser, just cap it over the flash for a softer lighting. The hood basically improves your contrast from the stray light... since TCON usually induce some contrast lost, the hood minimizes these loss.

Anyway you realize the TCON doesn't have front threads so you can't put a proper hood so haha, yea, just slip that one I have over, its pretty snug fitting. (One side is taped, that side is the side to be fitted on the lens.) Should look like this.

wow... diy hood??? nice.... how did u get material for the hood?

Thought you know about my hood for a very long time?

The hood is made of black foam on the inside, bought from popular, the art material section. Its 3 layers of it super glued together. Doesn't scratch the lens edges and gives some protection

And the exterior is 2 layers of black art cardboard paper. For a firm exterior =)

At first I made the hood 15mm long haha, I think the longest hood in the market is only 3 inches=X But later sliced it down to 12mm to let the lens fit my bag with the lens attached.

1 or 2 shot out of 10 have DOF is considered not bad for me... coz most of the time have to depend on situation... another way to get DOF is to use micro mode... tat is when take small item or when ur camera is very near the subject

other than tat, there is always photoshop.. haha... anyway, i find tat photography is not just about take photo only, the post process is also part of photography (eg photoshop or developing of photo)

As for the grain, my answer is "it depends".

True, the FZ18 is no specialist in this area, but it can be substantially controlled, maybe you could show us a few pictures with the respective settings?

Basically high ISO makes your pictures grainy, but you can try to over expose by like half step, it helps abit.... "abit." But if you even under-expose by 1/3 steps, the grain comes out alot... ALOT.

brandon,

could you tell me how to post pic here?
