Thoughts on Price of OMD :)

might as well make it a fast lens f2.5-f3.5 together with all the features.

And the lens would be bigger. N it wld cost more. In any case which kit zoom lens u know of that is f2.8?

should be RRP.
32Gb sd card or mmf3

personally, kinda over-price to me
i was hopin for it to be ard 1200 body only, but out of my expectation.
i dun mind not gettin the mmf3, so i'm going to wait and see the real thing.
and yes, i didn't join the crowd at IT show

If you get the 12-50 kit for $1698 at slrr, n sell the kit lens + SD card/mmf3 for a combined $500 (which seems quite achievable), then the cost of the body will be $1200 :)

Huh? The price has already been set by Oly Sg. It is already set in stone. Oly Sg will not change the price anymore. People have already pre-ordered the camera. You want a better price, go to the shops and bargain with them. Wake up and read the forum before starting a post on this.

Although the MSRP has already been set, there is nothing wrong discussing about it :)

Personally I feel its launch price is a bit on the high side. Considering the Pentax K5 only selling for around $1200 new, or around $1800 w a 18-135 weather resistant kit lens, or Canon/Nikon mid range dSLR cameras.

For what it offers, I think the G3 is a much better buy. But this is my opinion only. I'm sure many others wouldn't mind paying two times more for the E-M5.

As long as you are happy w the purchase, price isn't the most important factor here.

Agreed. And if the rumours are true, OMD is using a tweaked-out G3 sensor. For ME, i don't see the omd's feature set worth that much more over the G3 or any other m43 camera, at this price. Much rather get a cheaper m43 body and buy the glorious primes. But that's just for me and my thin wallet.

Yes, no point trying to influence oly sg prices AFTER they have already announced it. Thats why the TS thread is pointless. But of course the whole thread ot to discussing abt price rather than doing anything effective to influence it. Read the forums before you start a new thread like this.

Any thoughts on price of the OMD compare to K-01 and the X-Pro?

BTW I actually got my GX-1 and EP-3 at more decent prices than the suggested MSRP. Without preordering by just walking on to my usual "friendly" dealer. Without waiting, too :)

Most dealers take "pre-orders" fr Authorised Agents. Depending on market demands and profit margin, they then set the street price. And they do monitor the forums.

I can't see how we can affect the pricing short of raising a petition here along the lines of
"We are a 1K+ (I made it up) m4/3 userbase and we refuse to buy any Oly products until you agree by our terms to cut OM-D pricing to $888! "
:D

EP3+EVF2+markup for sensor, newer AF, WS, I think its actually about the price they are asking for.
Personally, I feel that its on the high side, but then its supposed to be the best out there for m4/3.
Early adopters will always pay a premium.
To me, G3 will suffice as a poor man's alternative.
EP3/EPL3 with EVF2 isn't too bad an alternative either.

X-pro1 price is even more expensive and compared to high end APS-C DSLRs (ie. K5; D7K; D60), I don't feel that its that much a step ahead of those if at all.
Personally, I feel it should come down to about $2000 to be really attractive and 'fair'

K-01 is dirt cheap at $986 with a 40/2.8 pancake, so I think the price is damn good.
Too bad no EVF, but lots of folks use EP series and GF series w/o one.
Body only is $786 after getting rid of the 40mm pancake for $300.

I figured that I am paying the extra money for the 5-axis IS to pair with non-stabilized lenses, and for the weather sealing to be able to shoot in the rain / snow when travelling abroad. The retro design and pseudo-external flash are just bonuses. I agree it is expensive. The $1,888 MSRP (for the 12-50 kit) really took me by surprise. I was expecting something in the $1,500-$1,600 range.

Agreed, K5 and G3 indeed are indeed great value. Though I prefer the jpeg engine and IBIS of olympus, other wise, G3 is has pretty much what I'm looking for, especially that swivel screen! Anyway, I took the plunge coz hands itchy, need something faster than my epl1 haha, if dun like then sell it off ;p

G3 is indeed good value, but for me the oly wins hands down becos of the awesome burst mode, IBIS n aesthetics. Having tried both the flip type (epl3 n nex) n articulating screens, I must say I prefer the flip type as it suits my shooting style better, so another plus to the em-5. Weather seal is a bonus.

Oly has a habit of posting high RRP during launch, and the it drops pretty quickly within 3 - 6 months. I bought my XZ-1 on the first day it's available. Within 2 months it was in the low $600s.

Lets see it this way:

1. Do you need a weathersealed body plus kit lens?

2. What are your alternatives?

3. Does the alternatives give you the colour?

When I bought the E-3 in 2008 at launch with the 12-60 kit, it costed me $4k while the alternatives would cost me $7k and over. Based on feedback from forumers (yes I have yet to touch the camera prior to ordering), this EM-5 is snappy, usable but could be hard to hold with big hands.

For those that do not need the weathersealing, get the GX1 from me (yes I am selling mine after collecting my EM-5).

No lar....at 2 months it was in the mid-600s....not low 600s. :-)

Anyway, I do not think the E-M5 price is bad at IT show if you find that you will use the weather-sealed MMF.

Consider that best price you can get now is about $1700 but without the MMF3. Then, $1888 with MMF3, plus pay by credit card (Amex also can), and instalment plan (if u so wish) is quite OK lar. ie. You basically pay $188 for the MMF3 plus credit card's 2%.

Also, someone also worked out, if you buy from Amazon at USD1299 - this calculates to SGD$1766 after GST. You WILL have to pay GST unless u got a friend to mule it back for you from the USA. If you ship it in, then you need to factor in shipping costs which will be about $1800 total. For the additional MMF3, this price is actually not bad.

Not really ..... the EP3 still selling pretty well around the launch price, more than 7 months later. I guess the XZ-1 was over priced to start with.

My feelings on the EM-5, considering:

1. K-5 is $1200
2. GX-1 $800
3. G-3 ?
4. K-01 $800

It'll be a hard sell at the RRP $1488. BTW I don't really like the EVF enough for it to be a deal breaker. If an eye level finder is essential, the E-5/K-5 seems a better deal. At the price of $1488, I'll wait for EP-4 :)

As for the 12-50, I'll wait for Panny's 12-35/f2X.

BTW more resolutions on how not to offend senile members ...

5. ".... the TS thread is pointless." - Not to start pointless thread that nobody reads or discuss anything.

6. ".... the whole thread ot to discussing abt price rather ....." - Not to OT on a thread titled, "Thoughts on Price of OMD :)" but to plough through thread totaling 25 pages titled, "[ HOT!!! ] Olympus Announces its latest Micro4/3 camera and lenses - OM-D" to discuss price of OM-D.

7. "Read the forums before you start a new thread like this." - Read the forums ....hmmm this is Resolution No.3. Now I am getting senile and cranky myself ....
