Thinking of migrating to Canon

At the end of the day, just make sure you don't buy those equipment to put in your dry cabinet. Make full use of the value of the camera by keep shooting, no mater what brand or model.
Agreed with the sentiment! ;)

well said. I also got the urge to switch to D700. But I can't find those F4 lens as well in Nikon... this is what's made me stay as well.

Agree with the 14-24 (wish Canon has something equivalent on FF). About the 24-70... was told it has the same nano coating as 14-24 so it probably is better than Canon's but the latter comes at a cheaper cost (ie AFAIK, Nikon's 24-70 is about S$400-$600 pricier than Canon's). The same goes to the 17-55 range. Canon's significantly cheaper and has IS to boot.

Lastly, one thing I like about Canon is it has a lot more range/variety. For example, Nikon has no counterpart to Canon's f4 lenses (70-200, 17-40, 24-105) and so on.

Not starting a "war" btw. Just sharing some info I've learned/gathered coz at one point (pre-7D) I did consider moving to Nikon (its bodies have better AF, wireless commander etc) but the cost of switching was just too much for me to take. :)

@TS: Good luck on whatever decision you make.

:Later,

Mostly are taken with a custom color style. Any equipment (be it Nikon or Canon) is just a tool, I believe it's the person who know how to yield it that matter the most.

I agree with Anson. The camera is just a tool. Knowing what your tool can do for you to help you achieve the results you want is probably more impt. There are many comparisons available online between each series of camera that you are considering and knowing each products' strength and weakness is a plus point in your decision.

if you shoot good, i think it doesn't really matter what camera you're using... but if switching system makes you happy, just go for it! just wanna know if you'll be selling your 105 macro, just pm me... ;)

nikkor 105mm macro VR is good lens! saw one in action infront of me. pic is great!

generally what thrill you to get a Canon from the Nikon ?

Both camps have it stew of great lenses. While the Nikkor WA are impressive, the Canon teles are superb. Where Canon is lacking in the WA, there is the Zeiss lenses to make up for it. Now Sony is in the picture with AF Zeiss lenses. Next, Panasonic is teaming up with the Leicas. So there is really no end to which is better. Someone will come up with something that the others may lack. Just make the best use of your available tools unless they are restricting you creatively or technically.

That's an outdated belief which is no longer true. Recent Nikkor tele (whole bunch of them) and Canon wide lenses (17 mm TSE, 24 mm TSE, 24 mm f/1.4 Mk2) that spot the new NANOCOATING technology are superb.

Canon has the capability to make good stuff but their biggest shortcoming is QC. Nikon seems to have better control in that department.

ok. I didn't consider the TSEs.

Think of switch to nikon system also FOC 1.5 better WA...but dunno why nikon cam made in Thailand? but more expensive?

I am on Canon.. my brother is on Nikon.. so i use both brands ..

what I can say is :

Nikon:
-so far i see the ISO3200 on a d90 vs 500D .. nikon wins. I havent compare a D300s with a 7D yet.. anyone can tell?
-nikon lens maybe more expensive but generally (the lower range ones), the nikons are better build.
-and since its more expensive on nikon , their DX lens hv silent wave motors.. similar to USM ... which is good
-nikon lens line up is less then canon but it covers almost everything... anything lacking can be found on Sigma/Tamron...
-i find that nikon build is better for their 50mm f1.8, 18-200mm, 18-55mm ... i think assume the other lower end lens ie less then $1000) is gonna be better build then canon too

Canon:
-L lens are mostly superb ... but how many u gonna get since price is pretty much on premium too?
-cheaper price for lens in the lower end ones.. but compromise on build quality
-better HD video on canon , example 500D vs D90 , and 7D vs D300s
-Canon service in vivo... great place to wait, lousy place to go (vivo pretty far to many ppl) ... nikon in Tj Pagar .. easier.

anyway this is just something i personally feel only la... but i dont really see why need to switch as both brands are good.. if u already got more then 2-3 lens i think just stick with it.. unless u got some problem with the brand itself so a swtich is unaviodable

for me, i hv a urge to change to nikon becos i just loveeeee shots without flash... after reviewing the cleaniness of the D90 ISO3200, i think i might want to switch over.. then couple it with a 35mm f2 lens ... i am sure i will love the result :D

Nikon premium lenses are not cheap either

Did you check opening hours of the service centers?

Lousy reason to switch. D90/D300s better than 500D/50D, 7D better than D300s/D90... and the cycle goes on. If I switch, it'll be because of the awful Canon QC.

I am not saying Nikon high end lens are cheap.. i am saying when it come to the higher end lenses.. nikon and canon is about the same px.. while canon lens are cheaper only on the lower end series...

Lousy reason or not is up to individual, i dont think anyone hv the same preference.. i state mine for TS to see, its up to ppl to decide..

as i say, canon or nikon... there no clear answer as it depands what is important to u

Listen... carefully....

under normal use close to apple to apple for both Canon n Nikon...

the Colour and saturation....

I personally prefer Canon ; its more Neutral....which means White Balance is good... esp when u work on Auto white balance...

I have work on TONS of events... no time to switch or color correction when my customer requires me to delivery fast......so which mean 1 shoot 1 kill mind set...

Another close to Canon is FujiFilm... their skin tone is always good... :)

sorry Guys... esp those who use Nikon... no one had manage to convince me that nikon can handle white balance well.... unless u shift the white balance manually....so of them say "I Like the color ...etc" to me its a crap... I can't afford long work flow.... hai....often stick to the old sch. style.... pls dun waste too much time DI/photoshop ok....

Last WORDS... go and do your homework personally.... its you who spend your $ not ppl who say here... go for wat u like.... well to me Canons serve what I want... and Nikon users has not been able to challenge with me on this :) n I will be sad if those will not admit it.... sorry guys :)

After reading some of the comments by canon users, I believe some csers are highly rational as they believe camera is a just a tool and at the end of the day, it is the man behind the camera, who makes the difference.

Of coz it's all juz the man behind the camera. ^^ ;)

I jumped ship from Nikon to Canon, due to affordability of 400mm lens.

TS,
Hi changing camp won't solve problems as new problems will always appear. I am in C camp, but to me N camp also hv lots of fantastic gears. So it is us the photogs that hv to try to utilize our equipments, that make the difference.
