If the E400 is coming, should I then wait?

Last heard not sure if it is coming to SG leh right pple?

Hmmm... i also faced this type of dilemma... wait and wait and not sure if to wait some more... BUT... as they say, there will always be a NEW-ER camera in the horizon... Wait until when?

But more importantly, E-400 is smaller than E-500 and even 350/400D... So if u dun like small camera bodies, no point waiting... that's what helped me decide... i prefer BIGGER cam bodies... big hands mah... ;)

BUT if E-400 really MIGHT have Image Stabilization and/or Live View... u might wanna re-think ur choices... BUT provided it will ACTUALLY reach our shores lah...

But personal experience, once i got my E-500... i spend so much time shooting pictures i got no time to fret over newer cameras... ;)

Cheers,
Eric

One question, I understand the E500 does not have AF-assist.. except using the flash strobe.. but if I coupled the FL36 to the camera, is it possible to use the AF-assist beam of the flash, but not let the flash itself fire?

p.s. I know this sounds confusing, pls bear with me.

Not confusing at all. In fact if you put the FL-36 on the E-500 you can't even pop up the internal flash!

Even if you used the FL-CB05 cable on the camera with the flash and do pop up the E-500 flash, the camera will use the red beam of the FL-36 flash rather than the internal flash (unless you disable the illuminator feature of the FL-36).

yeah i understand ur reasoning.. think it's human nature to want the newest and greatest.. haha
Well, I'll just take a walk down to MS color this sat to have a look at the E500. If I do buy it, next time i can use "but my cam dun have IS wat.. of cos blur pics lor" excuse.. haha

Erm, what I meant was, i want the red beam, but I dont want the flash to fire even if it's low light condition. :p

yes you can. just turn on the fl36 but in camera settings set to no flash.

the flash will still help the camera to focus using the 'red beam' :)

bro,

Dun say that... to be honest, i have shooting pics non-stop since i bought my E-500... blur shots of cos have... but they make up a small % of my total shots...

Its not hard to take sharp pics with cameras without IS/VR/OIS etc etc...

No need to use such an excuse... ;)
Think more highly of urself... its all abt developing techniques and knowing the various parameters! :)

Dont wait !!

even when E400 is released in singapore next year, the price will be high. then you will have to wait for the price to drop and there is precious time lost when this period of time you can practive your shooting techniques..

and also, just a side note.. E400 uses different battery as the rest of the E series. and so far there is no 3rd party battery that can fit in. An original batt BLM-1 would cost around 70 while a third party one is about 30. thus more cost saving.

Hmm.. is it neccasry to purchase a 2nd battery? btw, what other accessories should I buy together with the camera? I believe 2 filters? what else? think I should be able to re-use my old tripod.

Don't buy BLM-1s... it's a real ripoff. Get the BLM-1 clones from Eastgear instead, they are about 30 each.

maybe i remember the price wrongly?

i am using eastgear batteries...

its always good to have a spare one lying around.

eastgear is a local store. located at peninsular plaza 2nd floor.
they have this promotion some time ago that a charger plus a 1500mAh battery costs $20

the charger takes only around 2 hr to charge as compared to the charging units (4 hr plus)that come with the E300, E500, E330 series.. the E1 have the better charger

for filters,

if u can afford, go for the high quality Multicoated (dont get single coated ones) series from B+W or Hoya. you would need the most common UV filter to start with. or a circular polarizer.

get another batt to back up is always a good idea! :bsmilie:

The Eastgear clones are rated up to 1700mAh, excellent batteries IMHO. I bought two and got the charger free.

Hmmm, come to think of it I have 2 BLM-1s and 2 clones.... all I need now is a clone for the BLL-1, the original Oly ones are C R A Z Y!

Any idea whether Eastgear carries them?

You can buy clone BLM-1's if you want a FIRE HAZZARD!!!

Suggest you read about the clones on this page and compare them with the Olympus brand BLM-1:
http://t5r.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/e1/clonetests.htm

Personally I own 4 BLM-1s, since I own the HLD-3 which uses two batteries at a time.

Having owned the Olympus collection of bodies, I would prefer the E-330 to the E-500 in terms of versatility... the Live View would be helpful in composing waist level shots which is very flattering for touristy pictures... shooting at eye level, especially when you are tall, is not very flattering and does not cover enough skyline background.

And always having to bend to shoot is tiring... that is why the E-330 with the flip out screen is one up against the rest of the Olympus bodies. My only complaint with all the prosumer bodies is that the Auto WB is really weak as compared to the E-1.

Waiting and waiting for the new pro body to be released... oh man... the waiting is killing me... guess I can take the time to save money for the new pro body...

filters...? read that somewhere b4... they just screw onto the lenses' end right?
Then after that still can put the lens cap back on?

How much can i expect to spend? any recommended shops to purchase from?
