Thinking of buying E330

Oh... hmm.. maybe I should go HN for a look!

p.s. so did you buy the E500? any comments? I'm kinda looking at the Canon 400D too.. cos if it's 9 point AF..

It is probably slightly cheaper at MS Color or CP for the same package.

One of Oly's failings is the CAF module; it does not perform too well.

Multiple AF points work well for sports and birding, if you don't dabble with it too much it is really not that important. I normally do a focus lock and recompose, works much better for me. I've seen some very excellent sports photographs taken with Oly cameras, taken by people who have overcome the AF shortcomings.

Oh and then there's plastic, who can do MF faster than the cam's AF!

Zuiko glasses are really that good huh?

i like to take really close-up shots and portraits of my baby boy...

what's a good lens(es) to buy? Sigma/Zuiko? Single focal?

Of cos i'm also planning for an Oly flash eventually...

:)

Zuiko Digital glass were designed to be telecentric to the 4/3 sensor, so there's minimal vignetting, is sharp wide open, almost no CA...

For portraits of your baby boy, I'd suggest the following:

If you're not on a budget:
ZD 50mm/f2 Macro at about $750

If you are:
ZD 35mm/f3.5 Macro at about $350

If you're seriously rich and can afford to wait till Dec/Jan 07:
Leica/Panasonic 25mm/f1.4 at about say... $1200 (guessing... probably more!)

To increase magnification, just add on the EX-25 extension tube ($240). It increases the 50mm magnification factor from 1/1 to 1.96/1 and increase the 35mm from 2/1 to 2.78/1.

As for the Sigmas, I think they need to be stopped down to be sharp, the 30mm/f1.4 Macro I think costs as much as the ZD 50mm/f2 Macro. I don't think the Sigmas are as telecentric as the Zuikos, thus softer wide open.

Hope that helps.

Hmm.. think I'll go down to CP or HN this weekend to have a look at the E500 then.. do they offer interest free installament plan? Ask me to pay lump sum, a bit of heartache.. haha *OT*

Think CP has an interest free plan; go look for Andy Wee, he probably would be able to help you.

Thanks for the info. Hoping I will buy the thing soon and bring it along with me on my next biz trip..

I asked at MS Color... E500 dual lens kit, S$1250 and must pay in $CASH$...
Then only give a 1GB CF card...

Thus i bought at HN... or maybe i dun have lobangs there lah... :dunno:

Thanks mate! Noted... ;)

But that means the 35mm glass can take wider pictures as compared to the 50mm right?

Then with Oly's 2x crop factor, that means the 50mm & 35mm becomes 100mm and 70mm respectively yeah? And no way to zoom right?

So if i get the 50mm f2, i gotta stand quite a distance from my subject???

If you plan to do portraits, the I suppose depth-of-field control is important to you at medium distances. Perhaps you can check out this depth-of-field calculator to determine if the 35mm is suitable for you at its focal length:

http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html

Note that depth-of-field depends on actual focal length and not with the effective focal length which is the actual focal length multiplied with the crop factor.

Oh... what do they give at CP? Actually I dun mind paying cash, just that if it's installment, won't have big heartache..

p.s. now I'm kinda torn between E500 n C 400D.. *sigh*

I think the best is to bring down some CF cards.

go down there.. take some pictures.. and then see which one u like better in a computer.

I myself love oly colors more..

xD can use in the e500 but not 400D.

sell the SD cards instead to buy a CF la. :bsmilie:

Then with Oly's 2x crop factor,

One more time, again, the E-system does NOT have a crop factor, only those loser cameras like Canon and Nikon who use lenses designed for 35mm on smaller sized sensors.

On the E-system as the lenses are designed for the smaller sensor, they are covering the full frame and there is no crop...they are 100%.

There is a 2x MULTIPLIER factor though if you compare with 35mm film format.

As mentioned, thanks for pointing that out.

One question, I understand the E500 does not have AF-assist.. except using the flash strobe.. but if I coupled the FL36 to the camera, is it possible to use the AF-assist beam of the flash, but not let the flash itself fire?

p.s. I know this sounds confusing, pls bear with me.
