To all the people raving about high end $$$$ pro lenses, Ansel Adams made many superb masterpieces using cheap low end *uncoated* lenses, remember those f/5.6 and f/7.7 Goerz Dagor "junk" lenses he used? For example, his "Dogwood" photo was made using a cheap 7" Goerz and "El Capitan, Winter" was made with a 9" Goerz Dagor and "Gates of the valley" was made using a poor Cooke lens. People laugh at these lenses today.

Don't forget Adams used 8x10 large format cameras during those days. With film that big, you lens don't really need to be as good as smaller format cameras. That doesn't mean he did not WANT to use good lenses. He used WHATEVER was available to him at that point in time and made masterful use of them.
