The Sony DSC-QX100/QX10 is official

many selling cos they say cannot pair up with Note 3.

I saw someone selling his set on hwz because of pairing issue with note 3, hence my question.

On the digital rev youtube review, kai also experienced problems connecting with his iPhone.

You need to deactivate the advanced WiFi settings on the Note3 that allows the phone to connect to the nearest or strongest WiFi. when it's activated, the QX will keep disconnecting because it's continually searching for a network.

It's an issue with the phone OS, not the QX

think another at VRZ too.

Sry, What is VRZ?

The issue is with the user not the phone OS or QX. Remind me of a colleague who screamed at everyone when her mouse did not work because she forgot to plug it in.

it is only the user's problem if they didn't follow what i just mentioned.

if you know someone who has problems connecting, you can forward them to the sony call center or just show them how to disable the auto-switching of networks.

Just came back from business trip and when leaving Singapore a few days back, I saw T3 selling QX100 at $600. Probably tax free price.

In case anyone of you keen to save some money while travelling, you can grab one in the airport.

Unless anyone got better price from retail store?

Still selling it here at RRP.

I picked up a used QX100.

First impression is that it sucks... I don't understand why the firmware is so bad. I mean if you are going to sell the RX100 camera module, you should at least offer a fair amount of control.

there is NO iso control.... there is no burst mode. There is no raw format. There is almost nothing in the software. I can understand if that is the case for the QX10 but I think the QX100 should at least have ISO setting... It is horrible to use as a camera. It just does not make sense to mount it on your handphone as it is quite big. For the same amount of money you can probably get the RX100 first version and have a much better camera.

I don't understand why the QX100 is crippled so much compared to the RX100. It is slightly cheaper but not that much. I can understand losing things like LCD, etc. but why no ISO control and no burst mode? or Raw format? Why not give me raw? Manual mode? nothing.... when all these could have been EASILY don't on firmware. I mean what is so hard about doing raw....

I rate the QX100 almost unusable as a normal camera.

Lucky my intention is not to use it as a normal camera...

My intention is to mount it on a quadcopter and do some aerial photography. Or mounted on tripod to shoot pics with me inside. The remote LCD framing will be useful.

Haha, that's why almost nobody buys it. ;) It's not the firmware, it's the PlayMemories app which sucks. It's one of those products you will find for ~$100 in the bargain bin in Japan and Europe next year. Looking forward to pick one up. :)

It's good of u to share this. The QX is really a case of good optics being let down by poor software. The Pro Cam app on the Lumia 1020
allows even more tweaking as a comparison.

I only know of another person using it happily bit that's a camera phone upgrader who isn't interested in raw , aperture and such :)

Actually I don't really mind the missing RAW either, the potential RAW transfer times via WiFi would be outragous anyway. However, the camera app is redicilously bad even in the few things it can do. Sony should have released a polished app. I don't think it will ever come, they will simply forget about the whole product.

RAW is not meant to be transfered over wifi. In fact, I think it is pretty slow to transfer even full res jpeg. There is nothing wrong with keeping the raw in the sd card.

Frankly, for the FEW things QX100 can do, it can do pretty well. The picture quality is probably best in class. The stabilization is probably best in class. I don't really get disconnect ... often enough to irritate me. I am using android.

The point is sony has their target customer all wrong especially with the QX100. The ONLY people who will buy QX100 is those who are very interested in photography and are thinking of exploring possibilities that only the QX100 can give. The buyers are not your regular point and shoot people. That is why the limited controls in the App is so fustrating.

But I noticed that the camera API is public and there are third party apps that can control Sony cameras. I think Sony is probably the few companies who has the resource to design something like the QX100. Frankly adding things like ISO control is proably so easy that I think Sony will probably do in the near future. The point is just how much are they willing to do.

There is a misconception on the net, Sony's Camera Remote API does't allow those things. You can write an app for time lapse but you won't be able to set the ISO. The API only allows what Sony's own app can do, taking pictures and nothing more.

That is assuming that Sony will not update their API which is not possible. I already see a time lapse for QX100 so that is a plus for what I am intending to do. The current API list is not complete and still in beta. The playmemories can set aperture but I don't see the method in the list. I am sure Sony will add in more.

To me things like setting ISO should be like simple. I wrote like months ago when Sony launched play memories for NEX6 that Sony should have make the API public and be the first for enthusiast to write apps for their camera. Finally they understand this and if they improve their API, you will be amazed what sort of APPs third party people can come up with.

This I think will give sony a Huge advantage. Imagine people writing all sort of apps to program your NEX/QX100 from your hp and tablet. People can design their own UI. Have shortcuts. Auto send images to contacts. Sync with GPS on your handphone and geotag your image and interact with dozens of online services.

No, I won't be amazed because it's Sony, it will never come. You can bet they won't extend the feature set for already released cameras. Sweet dreams! :)
