The official announcement: Nikon D4

I'm so tempted by this camera. I know I need a full frame but I'm torn between this, the upcoming D800 and the good old D700. D3s is great but I dun see y not just get the latest D4.

Quite a huge price difference leh.. O_o

I am thrilled with new stuff always.....but one thing I am thankful to Nikon for is the ability to use lenses from the past on it's new bodies, and almost vice versa on old bodies with new lenses. This allows me to appreciate the traditional cameras and marry them with new lenses.......

Way to go Nikon

same here. I'm leaning towards the D700/D800 though. can't wait for the release!

yah.. unless D800 give me substantial subset of features from D4 (mainly ISO), the choice will be left with D700 (new set price drop for street price) versus D4 (managable street price)

Just kidding lah... anyway, as someone on DPreview forum pointed out, actually both the D4 and EOS 1D X are disappointments - they are incremental improvements, nothing revolutionary. The DSLR technology has reached maturity. So unless got a real breakthrough in the basic science/technology, expect more of the same in the years to come.

Maybe the breakthrough will be a camera that can also print, scan, copy and fax :)

if it will cannibalize D4 sales, then perhaps not :) Somehow the smaller camera will have to be "dumbed down" to fit into the product hierarchy.

D3S sensor in D700 body...... ;p

Long bullet i see.
if its too painful..Then no choice lah..only can blame yourself for having such a big appetite. Why not start saving more..cut down on expenses and sacrifice on things you can. Perhaps food..entertainment..travels.. life is full of options. If really beyond reach..ok lah D700 or the D800 is very good enough. (I guess everyone can afford the latter its just a matter of yes or no)

Sometimes a wish is also better to be remain as a wish..at least there's always something to hope for. lol.

Yah, I'm gonna take a look at D800 before making my final decision. That's one more month to wait and poisoning mind. I need to shoot more to take my mind off this stress :p

good idea..get a D800 and save yourself a few grands..
Heck its still a new camera!

My definition of breakthrough would be to make FF cameras n lenses of Leica's size. Will that happen? Cant imagine.. : )

Seriously, i just hope that D800 retains the 16.2mp from the rest of the series but give a better boost in the fps and ISO performance. But by doing so, it will definitely cannibalize the sales of D4.

The D4 + WT-5 combo will change the game plan on how wedding photographer can provide additional service to clients.

Imaging attending a wedding where friends and relative and access to the photos that was taken by the D4...

yum yum...

Wedding photographer who owns the D4 let me know so i can consider to book you for my upcoming wedding in 2013!

hardly a game changer. The WT-4A already exists. The WT-5 just does it faster. Additionally, I don't think any wedding photographer would want images straight out of the camera to be seen without post processing.

edit: congrats on the engagement.
