If deciding on D7000 over other models D300s / D90, etc... one must ask if good high ISO-performance is REALLY important to oneself. If you do not require high-speed capture (even if coupled with a fast prime / zoom lens) that requires the back-up of superb high ISO capability, then D300s / D90 is good enough. D300s is better than D7000 in a number of aspects - just not the High-ISO performance (since it's sharing the same sensor as D90). The only way to supercede D7000's overall performance, including ISO, is to wait for D300s' replacement - rumoured "D400".

When D400 arrives, I'll have no doubt, most will look towards D400 rather than D7000 - high chance D400 will share the same ISO performance with D7000 for sure.

At the moment, it's a juggle between D7000 and D300s...like I've said - if ISO performance high on the priority list of considerations - D7000 all the way!

don't think the D400 will be there YET.
so for those who already has a camera, cont shooting !
for those who want to buy their first new DSLR, get urs now and start shooting..!

i called nikon sales and asked.
promotion ended, but redemption for the gift will end this fri.

so even if u buy now, u won't be able to redeem the 50 f1.8 etc...

amazing how this humble little lens can create such beautifully sharp pictures...nikon continues to take pride in producing their trademark 50mm prime lenses all these years... super light, super sharp, super colours and terrific bokeh effect too

sorry to hijack...am new to clubsnap! i was just wanting to ask for advice, i am currently using a d200, well mainly the technical aspects dont matter that much to me, like megapixel count and everything, but i value the ergonomics of the camera a lot. does anyone think that the d7k will be as responsive and controllable as the d200? not sure how to put it in words but hope i got my point across!:)

Talking about ergonomics, I feel that in D7000 squeeze too much buttons in the small body. Referred to the new P/S/A/M button in the left hand side of the body, look like a "Mc D - Big Mac".

1 point in ergonomics value to D300s for a better and balanced body with nicely in-order button layout.

i think i can really just walk about with this 50/1.8 attached to the D300s all day long...just lovin' it.... really turning out to be quite a portrait lens indeed...

sorry, i sound super "mountain tortoise"...just amazed to see so many people selling this little precious at BnS....:bsmilie:

i took several shots of my wife today....wah dao eh...her pictures show her to be more "ang gey" than in real person...hahahaha....

solid lens+D300s = sometimes better than real life pictures

From D200 user, if you are staying at DX camp, D300s has better ergonomics & buttons placement would be similar to what you used. As good or better.

D7000 I don't find it very cheerful to use for me, especially the tier dial is not my fave part.

Then the AE/AF-lock and AF-on button is not there together like the D300s. Only possible way is to assign one function on that button next to the command dial.

Missing dedicated OK button makes a big difference, especially when I try not make any mistakes by pressing on the center OK button like 'format card'

On D7000, OK button is at the navigation center, kinda too convenient to press it. But instead when on D300s, the OK key is at left hand corner, which I will not accidentally press OK when I know I should not format the card.

D7000: Metering button is next to top LCD panel. All exposure modes (PSAM) are at the tier dial area.

You should go fiddle with the real body first to decide for yourself whether it's really good for you.

In additional, you could go to NSC, to play around and compare the ergonomics between two bodies. In my opinion, D300s is more recommended for you, as D200 buttons and layout are not much different with D300s.

For me I will not get either camera yet. My D80 still serves me very well. I know the D7000 offers quite a lot of upgrade over the D80 but I can and will hold out at least for the D300s replacement before making any buying decision since I plan to use this D80 for another 2 years at least.

 for you!
Not only you, I also wait for D300s replacement, which should be release by the end of year 2011.

I believe that the Nikon D80 would serve you well for another 2 years !!
Like the Energizer battery ads, Keep Going and Going and Going .....

I think I will prefer to get a smaller camera over the D300s. As I walk around, I sticking myself to full DX smaller camera and DX lens. I don't have problem telling myself what camera to get.

So compact and nice , D7000 go for it.
:)

I think D7000 is still not compact. It's neither here nor there.
If want compact, go for D3100 which is using EXSPEED II too. :bsmilie:

D3100 is very small, so even Nikon and other 3rd party have never created a battery grip for it.

;)

Yup till this moment, no battery grip available for D3100.

If you already get used to with Nikon D200/D300(s) body, then if you tried D7000 or D3100, it would feel too small on your hands and more difficult to balance the weight of the tele-zoom lens.

I am using the D80 now, I think no problem for me using D7000. They are about the same.:)
