The Mac Thread (Apple related Stuff)

I know that if you use the ebuddy application. The battery will drain faster.

for IM+, you can exit the application and shows that u are still online.

When someone send u message it will get push to your iphone. Then you can start the client and chat.

As long as the client is running and on 3G the battery will drain big time.

any idea how to disable the boot up sound from the iMac? the one where you turn the iMac on and the sound will be heard?

sometimes i forgot to turn the volume down after watching DVD and shut down. the next day when i boot up... can get a fright of my life when the sound is played at high volume... :embrass:

need some help here. I had accidentally deleted some photos and emptied Trash. But I understand that the files can be recovered using data recovery software as I didn't overwrite or format the ext HDD.

anyone can recommend some good Data Recovery freeware or shareware? TIA! :)

I tried FileSalvage before when I lost some e-mails... didn't work for me.

I have a question on dual screen setup.. I've been trying to solve this for over some time but cannot seem to find a solution to it. I have an iMAC on table top and a secondary LCD non-Apple screen wall mounted connected via miniDSP-HDMI convertor and on the wall mounted LCD screen an HDMI port.

It works ok just that when at times I don't want to have the LCD turned On.. my iMAC mouse if veered off the iMAC screen it goes into the supposedly Off LCD screen area, how do I prevent this from happening? meaning only when LCD screen is On do I want that but when it is Off I want the mouse to only use the iMAC screen space.

Help appreciated, thanks in advance.

I'd suggest that you log out (cmd-shift-q) and log in again after you've powered the external display off or on.

I've never used a converter but it sounds as though that information about the power status is not being fed to the computer. Is it the office Apple product?

Wasn't using any particular Apple apps actually, when I switched of the non-Apple LCD the MM can still move into the blank space.

I see what you mean... it could be caused by the miniDSP-to-HDMI convertor, possibly right. But there isn't any Apple miniDSP-to-HDMI convertor in market is there? all I could find was a China made ones. Thanks for the info though.

Oh, there is one, but it was meant to be released with the new MacBook Pro series from Tuesday. I'm not sure whether it's ready yet for S'pore, but it's apparently complete and handles audio and video.
