The decline of squash

Old disused squash courts have their illustrious history:

Fermi ultimately succeeded in constructing the world's first atomic pile in a squash court under the stands of Stagg Field at the University of Chicago. And on December 2, 1942, it produced the first controlled, self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction. Fermi had succeeded in taking one of the first steps to making an atomic bomb.

Used to be a popular sport in Singapore late 70s to late 80s - top local players such as Venkatesan Gopal, Jeremy Yeo, Mah Li Lian, Zainal Abidin, Peter Hill, Stewart Ballard and Tracy Oh.

The answer was already written in the names :D

No ang-mo = no western country $$$

The same can be said for table tennis and badminton, but luckily there were the Europeans for a while and the Japs and Koreans.
Then with the emergence of China market and potential $$.
I won't be surprised that in 10yrs, these 2 sports become as popular and glam as tennis.

Same thing with beauty contests and movies too.
For the longest time, mongoloid face = CMI (maybe only Japanese in the tops as they had $$$)
Chinese only good enough for 'Chan' or 'Fu' with the Ching pony tail, buck tooth look.
Now we see lots of ang-mo judges give the thumbs up to Chinese/Asians beauties and ChowYunFatt no longer needs to play 'Chan' (ok...but he still falls to the typical 'Miyagi' Asian sterotypes)

this sport was already in decline then. . . no self respecting sports enthusiast will allow her court to be turned into a nuclear reactor equivalent

I remember most squash courts turned into non aircon gyms..

for so many years, the winners were always from one country which made it absolutely boring

not helped by most players' filthy habits like swiping their sweaty arms against the court walls in front of TV cameras

super turn off !

If squash is looking at 2 players backsides and a little ball. Golf is looking at 1 and a smaller ball. A single hit and they walk or take a buggy 300 meters before hitting another shot. The whole game is finished with less than 100 hits. That much of energy used for a sport.

Why than so many Asian is crazy over it.? You sure all those people in the crowd see where the ball land 300 meters away? They are there to be among the crowd. So sport is not just sport but status and how it is marketed.

it is the prestige of a sport which brings in fans. the more expensive - the more ostentatious, the more popularly received by rich people.
hence the decline of marbles and the rise of golf. This is due to upward aspiration.

1 golf club - few hundred dollars. 1 golf club membership - 5 digit or more.

That why we should think first. If you wish to get a good work out, choose a sport that suit you not what others think. If you just want to be seen participation in a high class activity, then polo, F1 or golf should be good 'sport'.

However, to be fair, there are those who truly love certain sports. No offense.

there is a Porsche auxiliary championship race alongside Formula One , where rich retired uncles pay for car, consumables and freight on their own expense.

great way to look cool and have many tourists and babes posing with car
