yes..u cannot put on footwear when entering the temple..tats y u need a plastic bag to keep ur shoe..best is u can hide in ur bag oso..

There will be ushers giving out plastic bags near the temple at Tank Road and you'll notice that the devotees will put their shoes in the plastic bag and put it outside the temple.
I would suggest that you carry a backpack and place your shoes inside it so that you don't have to put it outside of the temple. YMMV.
As far as I know, the event will start tomorrow morning with the carrying of the spike kavadi starting on 220108(Tue) at 0200 hrs.
The brochure has been put up by the Hindu Endownment Board for all to see.

Traffic Arrangements for Thaipusam Festival 2008
The Thaipusam Festival 2008 will be held on Tuesday, 22 Jan 2008.
Starting from midnight on Monday, 21 Jan 2008 to midnight on Tuesday, 22 Jan 2008, about 10,000 devotees carrying kavadis and their supporters will walk from Sri Sinivasa Perumal Temple on Serangoon Road along Selegie Road, Penang Road and Clemenceau Ave to Sri Thandayuthapani Temple on Tank Road. Marshals engaged by The Hindu Endowment Board, who are the organisers of this event, will be on hand to assist. Please see Annex A for the foot procession route.
To facilitate this event, road and lane closures will take place from the evening of Monday, 21 Jan 08 to 2am on Wednesday, 23 Jan 08.
In addition, on Monday, 21 Jan 08, a motorized chariot from Sri Thandayuthapani Temple on Tank Road will move to Sri Layan Sithi Vinayagar Temple on Keong Saik Road between 5am and 8am and then move back to Sri Thandayuthapani Temple between 5pm and 11.30pm the same evening.
Auxiliary police officers will escort the motorized chariot procession. These officers, engaged by the organisers, will also be deployed to regulate traffic and assist motorists throughout the event. Motorists are advised to comply with their directions. Police will also be deployed for crowd control and traffic management.
Motorists should avoid the route of the religious processions as well as the peripheral roads leading to the affected areas. Those intending to wait for the devotees at the end of the procession should do so at the URA car park along River Valley Rd next to ITS Centre. They should not wait along Clemenceau Avenue and River Valley Road. Parking restrictions along the procession route, the temples vicinity and the peripheral roads, will be strictly enforced.
Motorists heading towards the City area are advised to use the following alternative routes:
From north - via CTE/Bukit Timah Rd and Ophir Rd
From east - via ECP/Nicoll Highway/PIE
From west - via AYE/Jalan Bukit Merah/Keppel Rd

just came back from SPTT. it is really crowded (although i look like the only local photographer among a few foreigners).
i can only stand in every location transiently and avoid getting in the way. good luck to those guys moving in at midnight.

Whatever time you choose to go down and experience the Thaipusam, it does not matter as there are differences in them. I wouldn't want to say that you should only go down on the specific times.

My experience with Tank Road temple is very hard to take pictures there, because access is blocked for the people carrying kavadi. Only can take from outside. So nothing much, mainly people sitting and waiting around, or crowding at the sides of the entrance looking in.
You better off at Serangoon Road temple where you can shoot them praying, setting up, piecing the needles, etc...
But then, who knows? I did get one or two nice pixs from Tank Road, except that they are not the usual type of Thaipusam pixs, just pixs of people.
still have things to shoot lah bro...go out and have fun...should finish about 1800hrs from starting point...

at 1.30 where will the procession be ar? Or is it all over the route?
