It is a stupid question.

I asked my captain this question, a country with little resources, with no water and food supply. When war comes, how are we going to protect ourselves?

We depend water from north,
We depend food also from north and elsewhere

Wait for the US marines to save us, I suppose.
but lucky got newater and treebarks to survive.

:p  :p

This is a even more stupid question to ask.

**ahem...hem hem**

actually this will only be a small issue. Dun think our millitary ties will sour over such small issues. We are strategic Millitary partners by geography . Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend.

Joint military drill with Singapore still on

(TNA) – Thailand has no plan to cancel a joint military exercise with Singapore in July, said Thai Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Chalit Pukbhasuk who is vice chairman of the Council for National Security, which staged the coup in Sept.

ACM Chalit also denied a newspaper report Thursday which said that the Thai military considered terminating Singapore's contract to use a military training base in Kanchanaburi if the city state failed to cooperate on the issue of the ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

He said the training site was not leased to Singapore, but the island state was allowed access for training and for joint military exercises under the terms of the bilateral defence cooperation pact between the two countries.

In reciprocity, the Thai armed forces were allowed to use Singapore’s military bases, he added.

The air force chief insisted that the military ties with Singapore were not affected by the recent dispute over Singapore’s decision to allow Mr Thaksin to travel there and meet with its deputy prime minister days after Thailand had revoked his diplomatic passport. Last week, Thailand retaliated by suspending all high-level contacts with the island republic.

Matters between Thailand and Singapore were further complicated by the coup leader’s recent allegation of wiretapping practice by a Singapore company.

“The existing agreement was made between the armed forces of both countries. What is the basis for cancelling it? We have come to rely quite a lot on Singapore’s military facilities as a result of the bilateral pact,” ACM Chalit told reporters.

Thai sale of mobile firm to Singapore 'a mistake'
  • Jim Pollard, Bangkok
  • January 24, 2007
THE sale of Thailand's national satellite and mobile phone company to Singapore was a tragic mistake that had compromised the Thai military because Singapore would abuse their access to the communications infrastructure, a top Australian defence analyst said yesterday.

Des Ball, from the Australian National University, said Thailand's new military Government should shoot down the sale of the national satellite to Singapore and not trust the city-state when it comes to defence communications.

Professor Ball said the sale of the ShinSat satellite to Singaporean state investment firm Temasek Holdings - part of a highly controversial deal negotiated last year by deposed Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra - was a tragedy for the Thai military that could cost them hundreds of millions of dollars.

Professor Ball said Bangkok should launch a new satellite to ensure the Thai military's signals could not be intercepted.

"It's not in Thailand's interests to allow Singapore control of such a critically important communications system, through the satellite and mobile phone company," he said.

The sale had "given Singapore direct access to the Royal Thai Army's satellite communications". He added: "They are going to have to have their own independent system, otherwise they hand their military and very sensitive (data) traffic to Singapore on a plate.

"It's a tragedy they've handed that away with the Shin deal and will now have to redesign their own system. If they could get out of this, there are national security reasons why they should ... Launching a new satellite could cost $US250 million ($316million)."

Professor Ball said Australia went through a similar debate five years ago when Singtel purchased the Optus mobile phone company. He was one of a series of analysts who publicly opposed the takeover.

The federal Government eventually allowed the sale to go through, partly to ensure continued close co-operation with the island state, but Australia had to spend a huge sum on fibre-optic cables between its defence bases to ensure its military communications were secure.

Part of the problem, Professor Ball said, was "Singapore has a track record of taking advantage of information for commercial and political purposes".

Singapore had "listened to and photographed Australian military facilities", which had created diplomatic rifts with Canberra, he said.

"They have a history of abusing their access to training in other facilities abroad. That is not what friends are supposed to do - they abused their friendship," Professor Ball said.

Things are not as simple as it seems. This so called Prof Ball has close ties with the Thai Military, he is not speaking as a neutral party but parroting the Thai accusations.

are you serious asking that question?? :dunno:
I seriously think it's a ... well.... stupid question

thats a good one;)
ya...u r rite ...We need our military....no doubt its small.....but it will really come handy when time calls. DONT beleive those **** of neighbours saying how negligeble our MILITARY is.

MIND all of u, we are but an ISLAND. Not any TOM DICK HARRY may one to give a hand when some asshole attack us........THIS IS REALITY and stop DOUBTING UR OWN ARMY.

As a country with little resources, it just shows how reliant we are on other countries. :o

in the very least, we do not go down without a fight...at the very least fight for our family and brothers.

Don't for a moment think that the SAF is small. The fighting strength is very significant especially for this region. Force projection capability is also quite significant.

However, one must not read everything the generals say literally. They also have a domestic and even armed forces internal audience to attend to. Just because they make an incredible accusation, we must not think they said it through ignorance or shooting-off their mouth. What is said may be untrue, but still it serves a purpose of their own.

BTW, isn't it interesting that the Myanmese hasn't kick up a fuss yet? Their military communication sits on the Thaicom satellites as well. So buy purchasing Shin, we have control not only over Thailand but also Myanmar traffic. hahaha. * sarcasm intended *

Haha dont think the Burmese will say anything. We are their allies, yes we have close cooperation in many areas. Of course mostly hush hush.....

in the very least, we do not go down without a fight...at the very least fight for our family and brothers.

YAAAA!!!! HAIL my Singaporean BLOOD BROTHERS !!! WE DONT JUST go to HIDE without a FIGHT!!!

but then ho.....most thing can be settled by money la.....if there is financial benefits for both parties...then we are KAWAN KAWAN lo....thats life...always been like that....(phuiiii !!!)

Military DEFENCE is necessary when "TALKS" with some stupid fools dont work...

So who said Singapore dont need military? seow hah?....

Dont mess with the little HORNET.....

sorry to comment.......

As a Country Leader....its really a shame that some would rather work hard to FEED THEIR OWN PRIDE rather than their OWN COUNTRYMEN.......

this is the root of a nation's suffering

sianzzzz.....dont think THAKSIN can resume back any power at all.

we need more business minded leaders around asia.....this marshall law just cant work....

YOyo..wheres the Thai King?...chamcham

Stupid move, really blowing things out of hand instead of rebuilding the realationship. I hope the people of thailand begin to see how a general should just be leading the army and not the nation. Like putting Zhang fei at the head of the country. He seems sorely inexperience as a politician. First the investment curb causing the thai markets biggest crash in 16 years now this. Singapore brings them millions in trade. What on earth do we need to spy on thailand for? Are they so afraid of our army? We have been at peace and allies for years. We are not in striking distance. I think he really has no directions for thailand, so just kick up some frantic nationalism and hope his popluarity last a while longer sheesh..

haha..ZHANGFEI ...thats a good one. At least ZHANGFEI got his brothers to slap and wake him up....
