TFCD - From Ugly to Pretty

ermm... now i feel super paiseh... but... whats done cannot be undone lah...

so ... uh... here's the details...

Time: Between 11am to 3pm

No need to feel paiseh lah, be natural, and there's nothing makeup, PS and a little bit of photog's creative juice can't fix.

Just a note, if you are doing an outdoor shoot, the sun at that time may be a bit too hot, and the direction & quality of light may not be very flattering. Unless you are having a reflector, you're going to have harsh shadows and squinting eyes throughout.

IMHO, early morning/late afternoon (which incidentally is the best time to swim/suntan without damaging your skin too much).

Basically when the sun is not straight above your head. But if you have a team of people holding reflectors and diffusers for you, then anytime also can. :bsmilie:

Took a while for me to think before starting this thread, but I am in desprate need for some decent photos (full lengths and portraits) of myself for my portfolio aka resume.

Not going to be easy though, need to turn an ugly n fat me into pretty n decent me.

Also to take this opportunity to try out posing infront of camera instead of behind the viewfinder.

Some snaps of myself...

Outfits in Tshirts, jeans, sports attire and if I can find, a dress. Light make up to natural look.

Anyone keen to help?

I guess that as a photographer, you should know that looking good depends more on the makeup artist than on the cameraman. Photoshop, for all its wonders, can only do so much.

Lights are also very important in making one look good, as it can be used to highlight the more flattering areas while blanketing the less flattering areas into deep shadow.

So if I may make three suggestions:

a. Get yourself a good makeup artist. Someone who knows how to hide complexion flaws, make plain Jane look gorgeous.

If you really want to look better you'd have to go the whole hog-- get your hair done, get manicure/pedicure/scrub, etc.

b. Do the shoot in a studio where you can control the lights totally, where you don't have to sweat, makeup doesn't melt, etc.

c. (Depending on how good you are at posing) It may be good to get a stylist to help if you want to have great poses/angles.


Yes, it means you'll likely have to pay. But that's the spirit of TFP anyway, right? The photographers are doing you a favour by giving you their time, you need to give them a set of good photos for their portfolio, if it means you need to pay for the opportunity to look good, then so be it.

anyway, its just another fun outing for me, i thinking of bringing my RF setup with umbrellas, this time i do lighting engineer will do... probably bring a ring flash to get that catchlight on the eye...

I have to agree with you after reading this. No point having multiple shots of the same kind. Looks like it's best to let the lady herself to select the few photographers to be involved.
