Terrible service attitude of some camera shops in Chinatown!!!!!

well there r signs of whether the person merely ask song only or wants to buy. In marketing we call it MAN. Man with means, with authority or with needs. Whether you can ask more or not os really not up to me, it takes 2 hands to clap or snap. If the bugger thinks you ask song only the conversation will evaporate quickly. But let others say. Try the safer shops then the sharks

i thought in sales we suppose to treat all customers the same, meaning we don't see them as window shoppers but as potential customers? if we see customers as those who want to "just see and not buy", "see and buy", and "don't see straight away buy" etc etc, i think that is really bad customer service.. even if a young teenagers come into my shop, i will not treat them differently, i will see them as potential customers, the fact that they have desire about some products makes them potential customers.. shooing away customers like that are not sales attitude, but gangsters attitude..

that's theory, reality is if you wear a pair of worn down shoe and visit those atas shoe shop, you will know what discrimination is. then of cos there is the Buy And Throw Away type (read the acroynm).

for a very technical product and also a pricey product, what do you expect from "salesman" who may not fully understand let alone appreciate the things they are selling?

to some of them, selling makes a commission which they r highly dependent due to paltry basic pay (if any). selling to you in their context is like playing blackjack. hit and run.

but when you goto a reputable shop that hires better informed salesman, they prefer poker game and go the full mile with you.

nvm lah.. this is only TCSS session. don't take it too hard.

anyway.. i like to post here and not the other thread which i think is bearing down to some legality issues already.

To TS, learn ur lesson and move on. I've seen one SLS shop sued a nos of customers for bad mouthing them many years back and they have to publish an apology on the newspaper. even a car dealer suing the car forum and forcing it to close down. I've also faced threats before trying to meditate with TS and seller. So..
no matter how much truth or untruth. just bear with 人在做 天在看 for your own goodness.
don't let the ghost from the past come back to haunt you. 人心隔肚皮. you never know who is who, and what they will do.
forgiveness is an art.

haha! i agree with you.. this is the real life situation.. but seriously, customer service nowadays have gone down the drain, most of it..

yes, the other thread i feel a little insecure to post.. why? because even if what TS said is true, he can't give a proof.. he's pretty much screwed if those people decide to take some legal actions.. unless TS has some witness, he could be the one that is seen as wrong..
unfair, i must say, if this happens..

i don't want stab back these guys, in fact as what i said in the other thread, i stepped into these shops occasionally when i wandered in Chinatown, because i never thought this kind of things could happen in Singapore, i came here one month ago, people i met here are very very nice, i've already made many friends inside and outside school.

Only these two places make me feel so bad!!!

i dunno.. first must determine if TS is a 问神.

if you 问 and no buy, i can see where the conversation will be heading with a hot headed salesman.

.

it doesn't matter if customer is 问神 or not, basically the sales person should have the courtesy and proper business ethics to attend to the customer's queries.

look at it from another angle, if a salesperson approaches customer and talks non-stop to sell the product, does it give the customer the right to shout vulgarities at the sales person?

to TS - it's really unfortunate to hear that there are such black sheeps. pls follow-up on this with the authorities and i really hope that something will be done.

yep, i know how you feel.. don't get me wrong, what i wanted to say is that, since they threw those vulgarities verbally and pushed you as you claim, there is no concrete evidence to show these unless you have credible eyewitness(es), so it may instead backfire you.. they may say that, because you have no concrete evidence, they had not done it, you are just making that up.. I am not saying that what you said is a lie, i am just saying that they may twist around the story and tell the authorities that you are the liar.. so just take care, okay.. for me, i believe that some shops like these are capable of saying/doing something you described.. recently there was a video about a salesperson who threw vulgarity at a customer when the latter asked for clarification about overpriced items.. (and it became quite big) :o

dang, i forgot there is no edit button..

just want to add something..

don't be sad.. this kind of thing happens all over the world, we are living in a less than perfect world.. so, my advice to you is to move on.. or if you still have a grudge against them, why not go to the shop, ask for the manager, and explain those things in DETAIL (date/time/chronology/etc etc) and do that NICELY, we shall not get high tempered but show them that we are a better human being by controlling our emotion, or simply ask for a feedback form (less harmful).. i know some of you might say that they are not going to take the form seriously, but hey, who throws away feedback form straight away without looking at it first? at least they know about it..

one more thing, if you still feel uneasy, just put those store on your "ignore" list..

this reminds me of the time when there was tis feller at the singapore sweep teller still marking up his stake. the teller asked him to step aside so those in the Q can continue and he did shout expletives to the teller saying he is a big player not some kiching kurat.

so, yes, any one can shout vulgarities no doubt about that. but doing this, you must assume some responsibility for the consequence that follows.

then again, switch back to another freq. isn't the art of salesmanship about listening than talking?

.

no, i think it is about taking care about the customers, listening to their needs and talking to them nicely how to fulfill their needs.. salesmanship still falls under customer service..

TS: just curious why do you go to a touristy place like Chinatown to ask for camera prices instead of the usual recommended outlets in Funan/SLS/AMK?

Actually in almost all sales training, they will teach you to prioritize your sales opportunities... Meaning you have to size up every customer, estimate the transaction value, and the time/effort to close. And prioritize accordingly. :o

He just arrive in Singapore for a month, I don't think he is that familiar yet. And it could have been the same if he was asking around in SLS

yeah, the first few months when i first came to Singapore, i always went to SLS, even i "recommended" my dad to buy a Kodak digital camera from one of the shops there..
Luckily we were not overcharged, because all we got is all the stuff at RRP, but additional $10 for another 1GB card, and that was a few years back, when 1GB card was still more or less expensive.. And he got the GST refunded, it was still 5%..

but now, thanks to more exposures, i dare not step in there anymore.. only if i'm looking for accessories like HP straps or casings..

Still no shop name? :dunno:
