Terrex seized in HK

I think American dominance can never be over as long as people like us still embrace western culture.

Let's wait another 20 years and revisit this again. China is considered still too new to have an influence on any country/region. Easier by force but not sustainable.

US has never show others they are the boss but more of a big brother or world police.

And Yes, China do have the $$$$$ moolah to give/borrow but in terms of respect and Big brother effect, not yet.

What "Western Culture"?

Everyone in the world is now learning Mandarin and Kungfu, using chopsticks, watching Chinese movies, listening to Mandarin songs, eating Dim Sim, drinking 青岛啤酒 etc. :)

Oh please. Asian is not equal chinese. Why buy apple instead of xiaomi? I hope China credit bubble burst sooner rather than later. Poor country suck up to them because they give loans like money fall from the sky in China.

Maybe it does in China. Never been there.

I believe US is the lesser of two evils. Remember China is communist.
Only a couple of decades ago this communist idealogy created chaos in Singapore and region.

What has the picture of Obama has got to do with China. I think it was taken in Vietnam. China is hegemonic. What gives the impression that everyone is learning hieroglyphic Mandarin. Using of chopsticks is just a learning stage of a culture. Kungfu is from India. Dim sum was present before Mao. We have lived before the opening of China, and we can do it again. Don't let the Chinese dominate unless oppression, which is worse than our current government, is what you favour. Yes, the Americans is the lesser of the 2 evils.

Kungfu is from India.

Someone conveniently forgets that it was the grandmaster from China by the name of Kungfucis that went to teach the Indians Kungfu. :)

MINDEF has been getting away with not declaring 'sensitive' cargo all this while, and China had 'closed one eye'. We were pushing our luck. China then decides to show everyone that they are the boss and show respect. Our mistake, so say sorry (MIW say sorry???) and move on. Message loud and clear - Singapore no longer has this 'special' relationship with China.

China appears to be serious about TW and HKG. And maybe some of those islands.

@ Sion...you know David "Grasshopper" Carradine? He brought Kung Fu to America...:bsmilie:

RIP to him.

Anyway, I'm glad S'pore still follow SOP, ie. through diplomatic channel. No need for all rhetoric like a spoilt single child.

The positives from this free advert for our Terrex IFV. I think S'pore Big brother keeping quiet is the best thing they could do.

I got no qualms this tiny red dot can settle the problem. Singapore has never sided with taiwan. They only use taiwan land for own military training. Never was it a bilateral one.

And now there is this phone call. His children will never have to fight so I guess he thinks he can do wtf ever. No nuance no deftness no respect. If Asia thinks he has it's back then it has never learned one iota about history in that regard. Talk about stir the pot...he should have the first taste with his silver spoon.

Same also for Holland V bank robber. Gone back to Canada?

Why do military matters always have to be hurry up and wait???

Anyone who has done National Service in the SAF knows the term, we always "Rush to wait, Wait to rush".

Yes I volunteered for ours...which proved to me I didn't know much when I was 18. :bsmilie:

I suppose it builds character though and with the way folks are over here perhaps the USA should make it mandatory. Might help cut down on some of the moronic behavior that goes on in the states.

Conscripted (aka "forced") military personnel feels differently than volunteering. All able -body male reaching the age of 16yrs are required to serve National Service (NS) for up to 2yrs or 2.5yrs.

US military have the pride sense of having the most technological military hardware. Having fought world wars and conflict.

We are paid peanuts serving the nation. My last drawn pay during NS is about SGD $225. Nowadays after adjusting for inflation is still not much. After 2yrs or 2.5yrs serving, obligate by law to serve up to a few weeks per year for the next 10 years fighting mosquito. Definitely NS here disrupt career advancement of our male conscript.

It does build character and to learn to tolerate other races, BUT you cannot compare US Army to SAF on how they recruit personnel.

I was crypto interpretive guy...scored 103 on dlab battery...farsi. 104 and I would have been mandarin. Imagine that.

Until today, China side still stay quiet about the real reasons for the seizure after the initial rhetoric.

What Singapore need is the actual reasons for the seizure, based on infringement of any local law, if any, and the way forward.

Singapore is a country that abide by international law as well as ensuring it's citizen to live by the law. Singapore may have err in this instances and just want to move on in a rational manner.

If China desires to be a world leader, it should set a good example.
