Hi Newbie here

Just bought a TC 1.4x from MS Color - I wanted to increase my 300m zoom without burning my pocket.

When speaking to the shop, he said something that puzzeled me, he said :
TC 2x for 300m is = 900m

I thought it would be 600m. Who's correct, not sure?

Also, after buying the TC 1.4x from him, he said I must reduce 2 f stops - how do I do that, the AF works, but how do I reduce the f stops. Is it on the lens or on the camera. By the way I use a D70 with a Tokina 30 - 300m zoom.

I also saw him doing some calculation, like multiply by 44, then he gave me some number? er... really blur.

Can anyone help me solve this. Thank you :)

He probably thinks that you use a digital camera and multiply the 300mm by 1.5 and again by 2 to give you 900mm equivalent of 35mm format

should be 300mm + X2TC = 600mm x 1.5 crop factor = simulated 900mm

and let the camera work out the exposure compensation since the metering is TTL

first, i think the correct one should be 'open" and not reduce the f stop. second its 1 f stop and not 2 for a 1.4x.

What this means is that the TC1.4x "sucks" up 1 stop of light (ie everything is dimmer) and you need to give a bigger F stop to maintain the exposure.

However, if you're using a D70, as suggested by Ortega, just let the camera do the metering..

Thanks guys for your replies, real helpful. Good thing that the D70 helps me in the metering. Great. Thanks again :)
