But Canon has it right, in even their consumer SLRs. For work I use a Canon T1i (not by choice) and it transmits not only the shooting commands through the USB, but also the Live View image from the camera, and the Canon software displays it with maybe 1/2 second lag.

The only way to do this with Olympus (as I wrote a few years ago) is using their AV/PC2 cable with the video connector feeding either directly into a video monitor, or into a video capture card on the computer. HDMI doesn't transmit live video.
 

Yeah, Canon has had it all along. Even my 15 year old 300D could do it.
