It's not a 2x crop, it's the same full frame FourThirds sensor (you have to multiply the focal length by 2x to get the 135 (35mm) format equivalent field of view)! The only difference is because the lens is 20mm closer to the sensor on MicroFourThirds than normal FourThirds, you have to "restore" that distance with the use of an adapter to use a standard FourThirds lens.

If you aren't familiar with the FourThirds format suggest you read up on it:
http://www.four-thirds.org/

There's also a section there covering MicroFourThirds.
Thanks for info...

But discounting the technicalities aside.. it makes a 21mm lens appears as a 42mm field of view right? I see. Fortunately, we get to wait for a 7-14mm F4 lens soon.

Not true. You have the upcoming Panasonic 7-14mm (14-28 equiv), which microcosm has been eagerly anticipating for. :bsmilie:
ah.. so there is WA coverage available soon. Thanks.

I think trying to emphasis that they're kinda like, the smallest interchagable SLR cameras there is currently, micro IS smaller than mini afterall :bsmilie:

How about nanoFT then

weather was really cloudy, raining from time to time. It was a bad time for pictures but the G1 still did okay.

The AWB is fine most of the time, but at times I thought it is a little on the cold side. Just a feeling though, may not be true.

I am not trying to be fussy or difficult but I think lumping everything and anything to do with mFT into ONE thread is a little inconvenient and counter intuitive for everyone.

What is wrong with having 2-3 threads discussing different aspects of the Panny G1?

I see at least two threads in the Canon forum talking about the 450D. And occasionally people start threads like the 450D Photo Challenge, etc. I have given up posting photos on this thread altogether and created a Gallery on Flickr.

You pics so far ROCKS ...

Dun worry about the thread thingy .... will get through to the mods soon that this stupid thread is starting to look like the gut .... different things go into the mouth but coming out looking like "sai" ... merging threads is also like that .... become like "sai" .... :bsmilie:

Dun give up .. we do enjoy looking at yr pics ....

Happy New Year !!!!!!

Eh ... hope mFT do well in 2009 :bsmilie:

It's the M to M4/3 adapter, so can use directly leica lens on panasonic g1. I'm not sure how long the list :D , anyway camera quest only ship in jan , so buy now then buy novolflex .

That's TOMORROW !!!!!!!

It's nothing new, it's the same numbers FourThirds users have lived with since 2003...at the same time though a 300mm f/2.8 lens has a field of 600mm but in a much smaller lens, and that factor is great especially in body like the G1/MicroFourThirds.

EVERY camera format is a compromise compared to other formats, but also has benefits...even when 135 format (aka 35mm) was invented it was a compromise to provide a smaller camera using leftover movie film (historical fact), but at the same time having a wider depth of field than the larger formats available at the time.

Having both used smaller and larger film formats (including a camera taller than a person you walk into the back of), I guess I have a wider perspective of both the negatives (pun intended) and the BENEFITS of every film/sensor format, like due to the smaller sensor of MFT it allows for smaller lenses, not to mention a smaller body.

Personally after using FourThirds for over three years I don't think about it anymore.

I OT abit...What kind of camera bag can put the G1 inside cos I bot the G1 so long and have not collected the bag yet(that time the shop have not gotten the bag yet) cos the journey is too far from my house.

I guess most bags will do .... even those from Cold Storage ....

Anyone wonder why Panny decided on the moniker "G" .... G strings? :bsmilie::bigeyes:

Hmmm .... sorry OT here ... but .... hmm this is a funny thread anyway ..... does speculation constitutes "Technical"

No-la .... every format has its strength and weakness ... each equipment is just a tool .. and the photographer is the craftsman ... :p

Shows where your mind is.

Personally I thought it was for, "Gee, what a great camera!"

The problem with using "G" is it's a popular Canon camera model...if Panasonic's next camera is G10 it would cause a lot of confusion.

Thanks for the compliment. Let's see how this thread sorts out.

Hmmm... it seems like I am the only one posting photos from the G1, am I on the wrong thread? :dunno:

Anyway, in the beginning I was complaining about some flaring problems. However, after cleaning up my UV filter, I think the issue has been resolved.

I was wondering how the camera performs at night, so I went around taking some night shots. Here are the results.

Hi, I know this has probably been asked a million times. Can all 43 lenses work fully on G1 with adaptor ? Will AF, AF speed, image stabilisation work the same on G1 or some are lost ?

What do u feel abt Oly re-designing their fantastic zooms in a M4/3 format ? e.g m4/3 12-60. It feels they have sunk so much R&D into 4/3 to design a new lens lineup for m4/3

Remember that this is a brand new format so no one here has all the answers yet, and no one has done all the testing.

The easiest answer to give is any lens that has the "contrast detect focusing" firmware has a chance of working, and those lenses that aren't "contrast detect" enabled won't work.
