Hi Lightsabre,

Thanks for the detail explaination. Just can't wait to see the IQ for 20mm f1.7...
I just bought a G1 Black from Cathay Photo. Very satisfy with their excellent service.

Hi DaXiong,

I bought mine from Cathay too, the sales woman took the effort to help me cut up a screen protector so that it fits almost perfectly onto the odd shaped LCD.

I had some time to take some shots with my G1 today and the lighting is a lot better than previous days, I will be posting some of them here. Hope you guys find them useful. Ofcourse, they are not pro works. Feel free to comment. Thanks.

For normal dSLRs, I don't mind leaving them ON most of the time. This is because, without Live View, power consumption should not be that high. Therefore, whenever I needed to shoot, the camera was ready. With the G1, since either Live View or EVF is ON all the time, I felt the need to turn it off every time I put it down, in order to save power. This made it a bit more cumbersome when I needed to take the next shot.

No semi-sleep mode which kills the EVF and reading the sensor when left unused for a set time, and that instantly turns everything back on when you touch the shutter release?

I had something like that on my last EVF camera, although it wasn't instant-on back in those days.

seriously, theres no shutter flip infront of the sensor, will the dust get in the sensor easily?

there is a shutter flip in front of the sensor, only when taking a photo, otherwise, the sensor is just exposed there and then, dust should get on it pretty easy as far as i can observe, seeing that everytime one removes the lens, even when the camera is turned off,the shutter isn't there and the sensor is just there

It's a flip of the coin to say which is more fragile, the sensor or the shutter. You'd think that Panasonic install another sliding shutter that closes when the camera isn't in use or you are changing the lens.

Either that, or put the SSWF filter IN FRONT of the shutter so everything is more protected.

Time will tell in terms of complaints, cleaning costs, or repairs.

The 20 f1.7 and 7-14 f4 are two lens that I am eagerly waiting

I am surprised they did the 20m f1.7 instead of a 50mm f1.7..... I thought a fast tele prime should be a critical lens in every system. I really hope that means olympus is releasing a tele prime or something....

I spent 2hours this morning looking at the adaptors (from the images) for both Rayqual and Novoflex. It appears Rayqual is better built and best thing is it is already available for shipment. Anyone in Japan can help?

I think the EVF is activated when it senses something at the view finder. If it automatically turns off after a while, it will disrupt you when you are doing a long wait for a shot.

Actually, the battery live for the G1 is quite good. I did a half day shot of about 300 photos yesterday, there is still a bar left for me.

The only thing is after some shots and I forget to turn off the power, it gets a little hot after a while when inside my pouch.

All in all, despite a few quirks, I think it is a very capable walk around shooter. Let's see if it passes my 3 months usage test :D

Hmmm... it seems like I am the only one posting photos from the G1, am I on the wrong thread? :dunno:

Anyway, in the beginning I was complaining about some flaring problems. However, after cleaning up my UV filter, I think the issue has been resolved.

I was wondering how the camera performs at night, so I went around taking some night shots. Here are the results.

As travel camera, it has to handle situations in which you are walking around and you need to shoot something fast and get good results. I tested this by shooting some scenes at Calrke Quay, not very well lit and handheld. Most of the time, I had to use ISO 800 which would be a little tough on most point and shoot. Being a full featured 4/3 system, the Panny handles the issues without issues.

So far, I have only shot out of camera JPEG. The shots below is totally unedited, straight from the camera.

All at ISO 800 Aperture Priority

Maybe not a good idea to merge G1/mFT threads as the topics were different and unrelated.

I think it is ok to cont posting here ... there is only one mFT camera so far ... can't really have a thread for that itself ;)

I do enjoy the pics so far ... and it is slooooowly poisoning me ... :bsmilie:

Your points about the flare .... in the night shots .... I still see a bit of it. Of course the best way to determine whether it is caused by the filter is to remove it for a comparison shot :dunno:

For the moderator .... maybe a better idea would be to start a mFT colours thread just for pics ... those are nice pics

Again ... for mod .. it is kinda difficult to lump ALL discussions of the mFT G1 into just one thread .... makes reading too "rojacky" :dunno:

Thanks for the suggestion. I will have to consider a m43 section when the Olympus model is out.

Great camera, man. I noticed the even when set to dynamic, the colors are nice but not glaring. Still quite natural. Up till now, I am using out of camera JPEG. I am hoping to try out RAW and Silkypix soon.

I thot it may be a good idea to have a pure photo thread for G1, like the one for LX3 Pictures. I love that LX3 thread.

any news when the 220 flash and 14-140 lens will be out?
