I used to have the idea that prime is definately sharper than zoom lens.

However, I have been playing around with some new lenses... the new design, new technology , lens constructions, special digital coatings etc, actually improves the new zoom lens performance alot. To me, compromise a little bit, they are just as sharp as primes.

Oh :think: I thought you and Coolsgig are going for CarlZeiss ... also not cheap leh.

Now my lens are all zoom and AF liao, no more manual or old lens liao.. going for the practical ones now.

No la, I long time nv touch zeiss lens liao... good but not cheap and MF is troublesome.

AF is a modern convenience but to me MF not that troublesome once I get used to it...

AF/MF both have pros and cons...that's why my zooms are all AF and primes are MF except for EF100mm macro...

no right or wrong but just what I feel I want in my system...

it depends on the design of the primes as well...you can't compare the primes lenses that were designed for film with the newer zooms that are designed for digital...

need to compare like for like...i dunno whether any Canon primes had been redesigned for digital but perhaps there are some in the Nikon system? CZ ZFs are definitely designed for digital, which is the reason I buy them...:thumbsup:

I have to agree with Naka on this...having used Canon 24-70, I would say that the range isn't very suitable for crop bodies...

Agree... but i can use it as a normal walkarnd. But its a heavy walkabout lens but pic is super sharp and bokeh is sweet sweet... but i just got 35mm so i covered all ranges liao... now trying to grab hold of the 35mm range for shooting. :sweat:

Now im using 17-40 + 85 prime + 100 macro.. Need 1 more higher range.. thats y thinking either 70-200 or simply a good walkaround like 24-105...
