i came to understand that Sigma DC/DG both can mount into Canon EF... so my next question... can tamron Di-II mount into canon EF hole... thks..

yes, but of cuz you will get heavy vignetting.

erm... every canon body it call EF mount.. just.. 5D2 below the sensor it slightly further due to EF-S("Electro-Focus-Shortback)lens mount... if not how ef lens mount, mounted in crop rate camera.. =)

tamron 17-50 f2.8 is the mount similar to ef-s or ef huh...

it ef mount... but the lens it design for crop rate.. that y in FF will vignet.

Tamron 17-50 can mount of EF mount as they do not have the EF-S rubber tubing. However, it is designed for 1.5X~1.6X crop sensors so you will have heavy vignetting when used on FF like other clubsnappers here mentioned. :)

With serious competition from this lens (if IQ is good), I'm hoping canon will reduce their price on their 17-55 f2.8 IS :)

it will only happened in our dream. unless canon have new lens in this class.

I don't know what you mean by this, but EF-S compatible cameras are the xxxD, xxD and 1000D. The 1D and its successors, 1Ds and its successors, 5D and its successor all use larger sensors.

imho VC/IS/VR not very critical at 18-50mm ba.
dont think is really worth it to pay more for the VC unless >100mm??
i might be wrong though

Agreed with u. Feel that it may not be worth to spend $100 or much more for VC to support the short range till 50mm.
Sometimes i will worry that such 'good to have' function will breakdown and i may have to spend additional $ for servicing it

yap..VC on 28-75 version would be more interesting..
by the way, when shooting night portraits or using intended slow shutter with flash, VC/VR would be a "nice-to-have" feature :)

So it would be better to purchase the older version of the 17-50 2.8 without the VC right? Get to save up some cash.

why it would be better to go for older version?
should buy the one with VC..if no need to spare the $$ i mean :bsmilie:

any1 know when is tis lens coming to singapore?

According to the website by Tamron Japan, Nikon mount will be launched in Japan on 17th Sept 2009. I doubt it will be available in Singapore so soon though.

haha..
i'm waiting for e VC to be out soon so to hope e non VC version price will drop..
lol..

i doubt it wld drop. i read somewhere that the VC price is around 1K+...pretty near canon's 17-55 price. i was thinking if that was the case, i wld rather bloody buy the canon lens. anyway i read that the hood of the tamron lens is pretty shaky...and i dun think its pleasant to use.
