Getting the older version is probably better. There is very little difference in IQ and some say the IQ in the older version is slightly better. The only significant difference is faster focusing and if fast action shooting (ie. sports) is not a preference then this advantage is wasted.

I just checked the DDE website and the price difference is now only $340. Perhaps the difference will become negligible over time.

Haha. Sorry, I tend to round up the numbers.

Anyway I've gotten the 18-270 VC. I think it's quiet rather than what most CS-ers said that it's noisy... Unless the focus ring is faulty. Haha!

And about it being slow in focusing, I think it's just how the lens pick up objects. In fact, in low light, I have to agree that it's quite slow. About 10 secs?
However if I use it to focus on something nearer to my target, it will pick up my target rather quickly. Unless it's a moving target, it'll be harder I guess?
And especially at night, CMI. LOL!

But I must say that the VC works! Probably becos of the long focal length. lens like 17-50 VC, cant tell much... XD

What's the price in other store ? I consider buying from amazon for lower price, but extra 2 yr warranty vs cheaper price is a tough decision

I would forget about the lower price. In my opinion, a two year warranty is much more valuable. Peace of mind.

Not both. Official SG tamron gave 3 years warranty, but only in singapore.
yesterday i asked AP@Sim Lim, they quote me $990, but in different thread, someone said they quoted $1060 and cathay's 1115. Got confused and worry if AP@SLS one of not recommended store. Anyway i don't bring my camera to test, so no transaction happens.

Not both. Official SG tamron gave 3 years warranty, but only in singapore.

The extended warranty is from Mack. If you live in the USA, it will be good.

If you live in SG, and develop a problem that you need warranty service, you need to send your lens to USA (at your own expense) to get it fixed. And the shipping back to you will be at your expense too.

Worth it or not, you have to decide for yourself.
