Tamron AF18-270mm/3.5-6.3

Thanks for sharing, so did you use any of those magnification filter likr raynox or +4 filter for this 2 pics? :)

I've had this lens for 18 months and bought it for traveling. But I find it so convenient that even at home I find myself leaving my Canon lenses behind and taking the Tamron.

It may have slightly less IQ than higher end Canon lenses, but the convenience of this lens is unquestionable. It would take a lot for me to give this lens up. :)

Hi all. New here. Considering this lense for my Nikon D5000. Suggestion whether it is advisable? Or should I go for, as initially planned, for the more expensive Nikkor 18-200. Using it for quick getaways, convenience of carrying around.
Suggestion appreciated...cheers

If i'm not wrong DDelectronics sells grey set and warranty is by them only not by the authorised dealer, thats why the price. :dunno:

When I exchanged my "pixel fault" 550d 1 month back (after buying for 5 days), the manager (polite Indian guy) first told me that it would take about 1 week to "fix" my camera problem, but then the Boss (I guest is an Australian) asked the manager to exchange with a new set directly for me, as they promised on their web-site: purchase within a month - with one to one exchange guaranty for any manufacture faulty:thumbsup:
Therefore from the above experience, I feel although it is considered "Grey" set, but if in future my set got problem again with warranty period, it would take me about 1 week to fix the problem, fair enough:D I would buy the product with "warranty" from any dealer, as long as he can provide an adequate service for me:)
I think even the local dealers might take the same period of time or longer?.. to do so...

Thanks for sharing the experience with us, i'm sure it will help to ensure people who have no confidence in grey sets that at least they can recieve this level of service if they do buy from them.

I understand that if you buy tamron lens from the tamron dealer in singapore, they give 3 years warranty, not sure how long of a warranty do ddelectronics give if we buy from them? Any experienced forumers might wanna advise on this?

I went to but this lens today from DDelectonics but when i opened the box the picked up the lens there was a slight rattling sound.

I then went to look at another copy of the same lens and that had the same issue a rattling sound when you gently shake it,

In the end this sound put me off buying the lens

Can any users tell me if this rattling sound is normal ?

u mean something feels "loose" inside?... its normal... mine's like that as well... you are not gonna shake it like a shaker right?. :P

I think this kind of long zoom lens, have quite some movable parts inside the lens structure, so the sound should be a normal symptom. ;)

Yes the feeling of something loose.... thanks for feedback

The rattling noise is not unique to the Tamron. The barrel of my Canon 28-135 rattles against the 'body' of the lens when it is gently shaken from side to side.

Is this symptom call "lens creep"? The movable parts making some sound?

Lens creep is the process of the zoom lens moving and extending by itself when the camera or the front of the lens is pointed downwards (simply caused by gravity).

Sounds that are heard from a lens may result from the IS/OC/VR/VC working inside of the lens. A 'rattling' noise can also occur if the lens housing is loose within the barrel housing. Note: all of these noises are perfectly normal.

been using this len for 3 months.very good iq for walkabout lens with such a wide zoom.decent macro shooting iq although it cannot compare with tokina 100mm macro len side by side.iq abit soft at the end.hunt alot at low light on nikon d90 but abit faster on nikon d300s body.overall it's a good lens worth buying.

Agreed. The biggest feature and selling point of the Tamron 18-270 is not perfect IQ.... it's simply - 'Unparalleled Convenience'.

Any feedback on how the auto focus works on moving objects with this lens? Does it lock easily or hunt? Looking to buy for my D5000.

Cheers
