I think he is referring to the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8, I read several poor reviews on it too.

Sigma has another at 24-70mm f/2.8 which is a little wider at 24mm.

thot so too. And how is the 24-70 rated?

Anyone has some sample photos taken with this lens? ;)

alrite ppl..... the lens is in yesterday at AP, the Tamron 28-75 F2.8... i was at tithes marketing too, one sales uncle was kind enough to show me the lens and let me test it although i told him i was not going to buy

i got some test shots from them, overall its a good buy, small and light lens with constant apeture

good built
very fast AF among non USM lens
Flower petal lens hood FOC

priced at around $600-$700

How't the built compare to tokina/sigma?

Got the lens and managed to find time to fire away. Physically it is light but comfortable to hold and felt solid enough.

The AF is quite fast. Mounted on my S2, it it quite quiet but on the F90 its really noisy.

Optically the sharpness and color is acceptable but could not beat the Tamron AF24-135 SP, especially in its sharpness. At F2.8, picture is a little soft but still acceptable to me.

Though I find the sharpness is acceptable, it is because I shot it with my S2 which, being digital, looses out in resolution to a film camera.

As a note, the shots taken was about 1EV under-exposed but once auto-levelled by Photoshop, it became brighter and details could be seen clearer and sharper (I didn't sharpen the photos via PS).

I hope this is sufficient for some of you to consider this lens.
